This work represents how he felt well.
Normally Discord feigns guilt and other emotions, but in the finale, he truly feels sadness and regret and pain and guilt. All in all, this was the turning point in Discord's life, the point in which he truly changed for the good. Doing this in the finale was also a choice. Doing it to early wouldn't let us experience the hilarious antics the mane 6 have to put up with. On the other side of the spectrum, carrying it out into season 5 would've been overkill. I mean, that was a perfect opprintunity for Discord to really change, and missing would've been AWFUL. Luckily they grabbed it. For a Discord it was a great learning exprience. I believe the shock betraying the being betrayed was what caused him to change. I've been betrayed, so that shock is something that I know of and it didn't go away easily. I hope the writers take that into consideration in season 5. Not doing so would say " Hey kids, pain goes away like that!" Not the best lesson,especially not true. Again, words can't express how well this represents the afore metioned.

yes, I agree. and... I don't know if it's just me being depressing, but he might end up trying to kill himself behind the scenes. I say behind the scenes because that'd be too adult and dramatic and mature for their age demographic, but it could still happen with the character himself.

The ending was quick as usual in MLP, but I hope about that pain thing in s05 too :/ Even for Discord it must take a time to go through all this.

I donβt trust your charade for a second, you snake. You do not have a tragic backstory; the fanon can go jump into a time machine bound for Auschwitz for all I care.
Why? Because a tragic backstory would ruin his character. Discord is cool because heβs an irredeemably evil manipulative bastard who does it for the lulz. Heβs scary because he has no better reason for causing so much damage (and because he can cause so much damage with such little effort). Giving him a Freudian Excuse replaces the fear with sympathy, which is not a good thing with such a dominating, effective villain
