Caesar Silverberg, from Suikoden III ( > [link] [link] )For good or bad, this came out very colorful. Maybe too much? At least I managed to finish a Caesar pic I like... more or less... I didn't like the original skecth actually, but after some modifications I though it was decent and painted it. Still, he looks like Caesar in Albert's mood =_=
I like how Caesar is young and inexperienced yet as stragegist, unlike previous ones. It's good to change XD (But I loved Shu, Mathiu and Leon too)
I also love the beautiful intro of this game >> [Suikoden III Opening] Guess it's one of the prettiest openings ever made.
Well, hope you like the pic ^^

Most probably :/
I don't remember much (so long ago XD). I don't watch trailers, so I just saw some arts and bits about the plot. I was excited about it 'cos Suikoden had not dissappointed me yet back then (I enjoyed IV even if it was rushed and all). I was kinda sad that Ishikawa wasn't the artist, that for sure. Many bright colors, but I had faith that the story could still be nice.

OOh, wow, you were really optimistic.
I was being quite unsure about what was going on since it had been so long since I last saw any traces of the series. I didn't see any trailers either but I saw a game magazine promotion on it. I saw the artwork and I'm like, "This is Suikoden V....?" I was kinda lost about a short description of the story, about rulers and the Queen and stuff. It didn't really interest me either when I started researching about the characters and stuff.

Guess you got much more info than me XDD I think I avoided much of the info to avoid spoilers. But I was optimistic indeed. As I said before, Suikoden had not dissappointed me yet back then.
All Suikoden games take a few years to be released actually. I think VI is the one more delayed (if done). I don't count Tierkreis, since I'd say they did it in a few months (they changed the plot last minute, which suggest it can be done in no much time....)

Oh wow, they did? Oh wow, I wonder if they're planning on teasing the suikofans about the next game. If it was getting released soon enough, are you gonna buy it right away or are you waiting for some reviews about the next Suikoden? It's probably gonna go to the PS3 though....sad. I don't have one yet.

When the first bits of info came out, they gave some details about story and gameplay. But later they said they had changed them. And seems it was a BIG change.
Honestly, I don't know what they're aiming for anymore =_=
I don't have any of the new-gen consoles XD So I'd have to wait. But sure I'm gonna be cautious about VI. And I'm not getting Tierkreis, that's for sure. I did read a big spoiler about the ending and was so dissappointingly clichΓ© =_= And nothing of it appeals me (don't have a DS either)

Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-02-08 20:09:04 +0000 UTC]
Same here, no DS for me Aww but at least those Spoilers warned you about the cliche of the ending. I guess it's better than finding out first-hand....
Well, there's but one hope which is Suikoden VI and if that lets some of us down again, then it's a dead end. Do you have your own speculations about the next story though? (*u*) I wish it was a female Tenkai and that the plot as exciting as SII....
π: 0 β©: 1
Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-02-12 19:55:04 +0000 UTC]
Yeah =_= Well, from it's looks, if it had not the "Suikoden" stapled on it I most probably had not even bothered to check it....
Hmmm... Guess I don't XD But I wouldn't want a copy of Suiko II (...again) I liked how 3 was still pretty good BUT different.
And for the story itself, I, as everyone else (I think) I'd like them to continue from where III left instead going back to the past (there'll be time later for that, no?) About the tenkai's gender, if he/she is not gonna talk, I don't really care =_= (since for me no talk = no personality).
They should also make a smarter use of graphics. If they don't wanna invest too much money, they should think on alternatives (instead of using good graphics in exchange of quality, or use crappy 3D as long is 3D)
Cell shading is cheap, from what I've heard, and can make some beautiful effects (anime-like for example) Or do something like the newer Persona games. They don't have impressive graphics, but the chara portraits and anime sequences tell the story just right.

Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-02-13 01:30:13 +0000 UTC]
Oh true, I find games that use cell-shading a lot more appealing and it adds a lot more fluid movement environment to it. The 3D stuff kinda gives the game a lot more loading time and slows everything down like in SVI. That really pissed me off. Hey I got the same reason like you about if it didn't have "suikoden" labeled on I wouldn't check it out either You're right, and instead of investing on the graphics too much, they mind as well focus the time they have for that into the making of the plot instead. That beats awesome graphics any day
π: 0 β©: 1
Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-02-14 18:52:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. My fav cell-shaded graphics were the ones on Digital Devil Saga, because the great facial expression. And I think Rhapsodia did use them too.... I liked the color usage, even if the characters looked kinda blocky. At least it didn't make my eyes bleed like V's characters =_=
Ugh, V's unfamous loading time. Guess 3D engines are not ready for 6-party members? Though it wasn't just the battles....
Yes, feel very "Tales of". I don't like those series...
Yeah, and would be nice if they invested some of the money on advertishment. Hell, people simply doesn't knows Suikoden exists >_<
π: 0 β©: 1
Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-02-16 01:36:47 +0000 UTC]
Yeah they would definitely reel-in more people towards the game if they put up tv ads for it in other countries other than in Japan. But then the ads are pretty awkward =_=...did you see the one for SV? It feels....pretty weird. Doesn't even make you realize that it's a Suikoden game at all, it was more like just flashing lights and cosplays =_=....
The 3D of SV combined with the bright and multi-coloredness of its characters can make anyone get a seizure. =_=...
The least they can do is opt for that manga-feel to the general style of the next game it'd be quite edgy. I love how the graphics are in the Naruto fighting games though. 2D...mm....
Yeah the Tales series doesn't really make that much of a big impression to me either.

Hmm, Megaten series (Shin Megami Tensei, like Persona, Digital Devil Saga), Xenosaga/gears, Shadow Hearts, .hack//.... I wanna play Magna Carta (PC) and War of Genesis (both korean games, with fan-translations in process since............ a long time ago XD) I'm wiling to try anything non-cheesy looking too.

Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-02-23 19:01:46 +0000 UTC]
lol Believe me, I played MUCH more before XDDD.
Sadly, nothing.... Lately there's been a tendency where the more mature series die, and the more cheesy secceed and release more titles than what a person can play in a life-time (like Tales. Do they release one every day? ) Oh, now wait... There's a new Megaten being releasedsoon!! I'm looking forward to that one.
But really, most of the series I mentioned you before are either dead, or half-dead. I think the new-gen consoles war had a lot to do too.

True, so far, it's still about competition rather than stability and high-quality games...but the PC Gamers have been having quite a ball with the new releases these days...
Pity the console players, we're having our own depression.

They still do PC games!!! I though that marked died long ago =_=
Well, I'm still waiting to see what happens when FFXIII is released. FF sells consoles, and it's gonna be PS3-only in Japan (outside seems it'll be for X-box-360-wathever it's called).
I don't care which consoled is stablished as the main for RPGs as long as one does!!! >_<

Wow, well it's pretty much alive and breathing (O.O).
The graphics are stunning for FFXIII. Yeah it's tough waiting for something exciting to happen but hey, it's worth it. Yeah true, nobody at that point would even think about why some company's monopolizing that field.
π: 0 β©: 1
Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-03-09 17:57:19 +0000 UTC]
XDDD I don't know if I'll purchase any FFXIII game (versus XIII maybe? ) Don't have a PS3 to start with. Just thinking that it may consolide the RPG market once again.
Everyone kept saying how bad it was that PS2 monopolized the RPGs, and now look what happened. I think it's best for us users if a genre stablishes with certain system so we don't have to buy all =_= After all, they're gonna make us pay high prices no matter what...
π: 0 β©: 1
Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-03-14 17:58:11 +0000 UTC]
Yeah but then for now, we should be wise as to wait for all the commotion to settle down. The battle of the consoles will result in some people having to buy unnecessary things in the end. (O.O)...
Wow really?, like the PS2 wasn't that bad...and it's probably not a good idea to like, make a version of the game for every console there is. The costs might outweigh the gain or something like that. This is a time for experimentation. Argh....the good old days were so much better. Not much competition on the surface.
π: 0 β©: 1
Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-03-14 18:40:34 +0000 UTC]
XD I'm waiting and not paying much attention actually. I'm reading more too.
Well, PS2 had some crappy components (like the lens), but if you're carefull it lasts long enough. But there console fanboys too :/
Yeah. I think making version of the same game it's expensive. Only highly popular games get them done.
I think they're being overcautious. Wii has sold a lot, that's true, but to older people that won't play the traditional games. The market targeted to youth (not kids, nor oldies) has almost disappeared this days.

Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-03-16 19:17:12 +0000 UTC]
Oh true....
Yeah but it's their loss. A significant amount of consumers run in that age group. The gaming industry needs a new Era here. Something as big as how the Mario Bros. first came out....only in modern times. We wait and wait....there's bound to be something big looming up.
Our PS2's still in good shape and so was our PS1 up until now. How about you?

I just finished playing Suikoden V....and all I have to say is....WORST STORY.EVER. Well, not really. Just all that politicking soured the entire Suikoden feel of it.

Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-03-22 17:25:31 +0000 UTC]
Yeah XDDD I take good care of my toys XDD
I wonder why I read so much praise to V, yet I find so much people here that agrees with me in that it's no good?
Really, the politics wasn't real. I mean, it felt like they tell you all that stuff on the senate at first so you get decivied and think it's complex, but later it loses all meaning. You only see 2 senate families; 1 are idiots (Barows) and the others don't have personalities; just evil for the sake of evilness (Godwings) I don't know who wrote the script, but I don't want a Suikoden written by him/her again >_< And so damn many inconsistencies and plot-holes!!
π: 0 β©: 1
Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-03-22 18:39:06 +0000 UTC]
True. I think the only reason why they only put good reviews about the game is so that they can get as many people convinced into buying it. "If they experts say it's good, then it must be"--sorta like that. Pure PolitickingxSuikoden = not a good plot. Honestly, the Barrows....I'm not even sure how the heck they managed to hang on to the senate line aside from money and power. Yeah the Godwins only seem to only have been placed in the story as the token badguys. There's poor character development, only "Attack this! Attack that! Marry the princess! Barbecue the Beavers!" There's not as many exciting characters as there were in the past games like Luca Blight and Neclord. Suikoden V's....boring. Tacticians aren't that much impressive....and Leknaat's been downgraded to a Holographic Terminator with scarce screen credit.
Ooh same, I take care of my stuff, too! (My sister is the ultimate destroyer)
π: 0 β©: 1
Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-03-24 18:50:10 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that may be a reason too. And people gets influenciated by others too easily =_=
I agree on the poor characters this times. Of course I had my favs, but even if I compare those to my favs from past Suikos they get easily overshadowed.
And the tacticians were always one of my fav element, so I was greatly dissapointed this time. You can't realistically win by just flooding everything. Lucky the enemy was so dumb they never saw it coming, even after doing it so many times =_=
Surprisingly, Lucretia doesn't sees coming the very same flooding tactic she's overused all the game, at the final battle. Too sad.
And.... don't you feel like the conquer of the Sun palace by the Godwings didn't felt..... possible? I mean, can you really poison ALL the people on the Royal Palace (which is surely well guarded, specially the kitchen) just like that?
π: 0 β©: 1
Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-03-24 23:05:33 +0000 UTC]
Nope, especially with loyal subjects, they'd do anything to keep the palace poison free.
Oh, yeah, you're right. She used that flooding tactic too much. Lucretia lacks originality and creativity. I'm thinking that one of the reasons why the enemy faction's pretty stupid might be due to inbreeding. Like, c'mon...marrying your own (partially distant and close)relatives just to get a hold on power over the country? That is so desperately selfish and gross. I doubt the royals aren't hemophiliac. It's like, everyone in the royal family and the senate are secretly related. I'd feel retarded if that happened. Like, can you imagine it's like saying your family and the people in your entire high school are related? For a story aiming to portray the side of the royalty, it sure is a struggle of boring politics. Heck, put Shu in there, he'd make things much more interesting.(Too bad he didn't even exist yet though)
And having 5 people for character design doesn't help in improving the story one bit. (As someone told me before.)
The duel system of S5 was great
π: 0 β©: 1
Celsa In reply to Kian-sama [2009-04-03 17:23:06 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I think it's a pretty basic security issue.
Well, in small towns most people is related. And that's always been common in royalty. In any case, it's just a case of bad writters. Nothing else.
Suikoden always had politics involved, but they were well written.
That wasn't a good choice indeed. Mostly, because the artists weren't too good or didn't fit into the mood (depends the case). The one that did the main cast was the less fitting. Too cheesy, bland and unexpressive, not to mention a blinding and poorly combined colors. The one that did the Godwing, Zweig and such was better, and best fitting though. But in general, the art lacks personality.
π: 0 β©: 1
Kian-sama In reply to Celsa [2009-04-04 18:41:23 +0000 UTC]
Yeah that artist really came close to the original Suikoden feel *nodds* Uggh...the colors were like....eye-rape or something. But then the storyline dates back to before the first Suikoden so, I guess the violent and aggressive colors can be forgiven....Suikoden I had that approach and retro people back then wore eye-raping colors.
Haha, true. I never even noticed much of the politicking in the past Suikodens. Well-written indeed.

Well, Suikoden I had some bright colors, but not as much as V XDD And it used many browns, greys and such. I don't think they had any excuse for V's colors =_=
