He was tormented and haunted by the children he murdered. Eventually it has gone to the point where he hid in a animatronic. The springlock snapped, crushing him in the intense grip. He later died of blood loss, asphyxiation, and excessive force of the grip.
His corpse has not fully decayed, and his spirit hasn't made it to hell yet.

It's based off an actual trap, a spring trap, used by hunters that suddenly snaps down on prey (like a mousetrap basically) and kills them.
Purple guy's azz was compressed when the spring mechanisms failed, thus making the suit a living spring trap. :>

I suppose, although the first time I saw the post level minigames it realy made me believe the frankentronic theory.
also from what i've heared their are minigames that can be unlocked by completing puzzles during the nights, and if you beet them all you unlock the "good" ending. In which the lights in the animatronic eyes are no longer lite, and the fifth mask behind them all is gone, which I believe, symbolizes the dead children finally being able to rest in peace.

Well, the only thing about this theory I find hard to believe is this, even though it says that the purple guy was caught, it never said if he was sentenced to jail, cause knowing fazbear entertainments skills at covering things up, they probably destroyed the tapes, destroying all evidence, allowing the purple guy to walk free. Although this still is an empressive piece.

Well considering that fnaf 3 takes place 30 years after the first game (which from my understanding, takes place in about 1993) that means fnaf 3 takes place in 2023(?) so its perfectly possible purple phillip could've died between said period of time.
