I Heard About The Movie. Let Me Tell You This, Rabies are like AIDS To Dogs. Both Cujo and Old Yeller Are Heartless and Depressing Stories About Dogs Getting Rabies.

Not really trying to compare animals and humans, but, in a way, rabies could be more drastic than AIDS. The death it causes comes quicker, while I know people with AIDS who (thank God) are still able to live a good life for years, thanks to the treatments (things must have been way worse in the past, though).
But then again, there are vaccines for the rabies, but not for AIDS.
If you can, read the book. Or not, it may be too depressing. Whatever you heard about the movie, the book haves it darker.
Or just read until before Cujo gets infected. You will love him. Everybody who knew him did.
