This movie does not even come close to being that good. This shit is more like a gender-swapped Happy Madison ensemble with a heapin' helpin' of "lol men suck" thrown in.

The comedy is nothing like a Happy Madison movie.

TheSwedishElf In reply to Gaiash [2016-08-29 20:15:15 +0000 UTC]
The first goddamn joke is a pussy fart joke, one of the characters has half the "comedy" center around her body type, another is a walking stereotype, and the big bad is defeated with a shot to the dick. And that's just some of the comparisons that can be made.

Gaiash In reply to TheSwedishElf [2016-08-29 20:29:05 +0000 UTC]
That's not Happy Madison humour. Also two of those statements are inaccurate. Patty isn't a stereotype and I don't recall any jokes about Abby's weight. Did you even watch the movie?

>That's not Happy Madison humour.
Uh... Yes, it is. That is exactly the type of humor you'd find in all the worst Adam Sandler flicks.
>Patty isn't a stereotype
Uh-huh, sure, that's why even black people are calling foul. Face it, she's simply the Token Black, shown from trailer 1 to be the typical loud, sassy, large black lady who don't know 'bout all this science stuff but she knows the STREETS, gurl!, and it's disgraceful that anyone can favourably compare her to Winston with a clear conscience.
>and I don't recall any jokes about Abby's weight.
Perhaps not specifically her weight, but predictably, she still plays the role of the "funny" chubby character who's constantly the butt of lame slapstick, and a whole recurring gag revolves around her obsession with a particular food.
>Did you even watch the movie?
No, because I don't reward people who start hatred and slander campaigns against people for not wanting to see a shitty remake with a lot of shady shit behind its production. I have, however, heard PLENTY from people who have seen it, and they've all comfirmed that every single thing leaked was true and every fear those who are against it had is justified.

>Uh... Yes, it is. That is exactly the type of humor you'd find in all the worst Adam Sandler flicks
It's also present in a lot of better comedies, most just have them in moderation (which is the case with Ghostbusters btw). What I mean by that not being Happy Madison humour is that it's not what makes Happy Madison bad. My biggest problem with Happy Madison is the amount of times they make fun of disabilities and the fact they made a film that made light of statutory rape.
>but she knows the STREETS, gurl
See this is why I asked if you saw the movie, because that's a misunderstanding of Patty's character based on a line from the trailer. The "I know New York" line, except she's not talking about being "street smart", in fact her next line is "I read a lot of non fiction" and what she actually means by knowing New York is she knows the history of the city. She's smart, just in a different way from the rest of the team. If you look at most positive reviews when they talk about Patty's character a common thing that is brought up is how that trailer does a terrible job at representing her character.
>but predictably, she still plays the role of the "funny" chubby character who's constantly the butt of lame slapstick
No the character who is the butt of most slapstick moments is Erin.
>a whole recurring gag revolves around her obsession with a particular food
The gag you're thinking of centers around poor service, not an obsession.
>they've all comfirmed that every single thing leaked was true and every fear those who are against it had is justified
Except the points you're highlighting are inaccurate. That's what happens when you criticize something based on what other people have said.

That was a dream sequence. And at least every woman wasn't an idiot, jerk or coward like how men were in the new movie. Janine "motherf-ing" Melnitz, anyone?

Gaiash In reply to Xenomaster [2016-08-29 20:19:20 +0000 UTC]
It was still in the movie. As for the other point that's not really a criticism because it applies to practically every character who wasn't a Ghostbuster. Most non Ghostbuster characters in the original were idiots, jerks and cowards too.

Xenomaster In reply to Gaiash [2016-08-29 20:43:52 +0000 UTC]
No, they just lacked the understanding of ghosts. They weren't so stupid that they couldn't tell the difference between bright and loud! Everyone that was against the Ghostbusters in the original were unaware of the situation or concerned. Peck was doing his job, as was the guy at the hotel!

Gaiash In reply to Xenomaster [2016-08-29 20:50:32 +0000 UTC]
They still fall under the jerks category, or did you forget that you included that as part of your complaint?

Xenomaster In reply to Gaiash [2016-08-29 21:01:59 +0000 UTC]
Did you forget what Peck was? He knew the Ghostbusters was doing was unsafe! Hell, "unlicensed nuclear accelerators"! Plus the guy at the hotel had a big party planned for someone and the room was trashed. I'd be upset too.
You can sum up all the jerks in the new movie as misogynists.

Then by your own argument you shouldn't be so critical of the mayor or the government agents in the new film.

That still doesn't excuse every naysayer in the new one. Bill Murrey for one, who was killed by the only Ghost the girlbusters caught

It works for the story. The film centers around the main four really being outcasts so the rest of the characters see them that way until the end where they are accepted and embraced.

Same thing happened in the old movie, only it made more sense. Tell me, when did they learn to fight with the devices that should be like lugging a medium vacuum cleaner around?

Nitpicking. These girls who used this equipment once, has never been seen practicing with said equipment and are now using them to fight an army of ghosts and win, that is a nitpick? Might as well say the exhaust port thing on the Death Star is a nitpick.

Gaiash In reply to Xenomaster [2016-08-29 22:12:27 +0000 UTC]
There is a scene where they're practicing using their upgraded equipment. Just because we don't see them practice again doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

That is an excuse. At least the real Ghostusters (blame the cartoon for the name) actually caught Ghosts. At least they had a montage of being successful. At least they weren't threatened by a guy who can deus ex machina himself into becoming as strong as a Sumerian God!

Gaiash In reply to Xenomaster [2016-08-29 22:39:38 +0000 UTC]
In other words the new film has a different pace from the original. That's not worse, just different.

Xenomaster In reply to Gaiash [2016-08-30 08:02:38 +0000 UTC]
Pace?! No, the new ones did nothing then became ass kickers. We see the old ones actually work, do calculations and research. Plus I don't think "pace" is why Rowan somehow managed to become as strong as Gozer, A SUMERIAN GOD!

Gaiash In reply to Xenomaster [2016-08-30 10:38:41 +0000 UTC]
Gozer hasn't been introduced in this universe yet, if they make the sequel I'm sure Gozer will be noticeably stronger than Rowan.

The sequel that isn't happening because the movie didn't break even and Sony has lost millions over this? Yeah, I'll look forward to seeing it right alongside the sequels to Dragon Ball Evolution, Legend of Chun-Li, The Last Airbender, Super Mario Bros. and Jem In Name Only that are totally happening any day now. I mean, hey, they jumped the gun and foreshadowed it, so OBVIOUSLY it'll happen through sheer willpower.

TheSwedishElf In reply to Gaiash [2016-09-02 05:09:36 +0000 UTC]
The sales that matter the most are over and done, and it's actually even less likely to succeed overseas due to huge differences in what people in different cultures tend to find funny.
Get over it. Sequel's not happening. Sony's laying people off because of all the money they've lost, the movie was a box office and critical flop, and even Paul Fieg thinks the whole thing may have been a bad move. Time to let it go and move on.

Saying that things are uncertain isn't the same as thinking it'll be a huge success. Even if things go well the most I'd expect is one sequel, possibly with a different director.

Until they actually say it I'm not going to say with certainty what will happen. Also if I was overly hopeful I'd be certain there would be a sequel but as I already explained I just think things are uncertain.

TheSwedishElf In reply to Gaiash [2016-09-06 01:47:14 +0000 UTC]
There's nothing uncertain about it.
The movie failed.
Flopped.
International release will not affect jack shit.
A shitton of the money goes to the theaters anyway.
The movie didn't break even.
Sony has lost millions, is laying off workers and will not take this gamble again.
No sequel.
The original can step back up anytime now to regain its rightful position.
Happy end.
