Planet Keron: Recruitment Building Date: April 29th 2011 (07:30 Hours)Sododo is seen walking down the way at late sunrise as he comes across the building. He first notices a tired pink keronian walking as she gives a bit of a yawn before the Navy Blue adult commented, “Tired?”
“Runi?” The keronian croaked, which is revealed to Runini with a red ribbon on her hat this time around. “Sododo, again? What are you doing here?” She asked with a tired look.
“I was just passing by on a walk actually.” The Lieutenant answered. “I just saw you and figured I say hello.”
“You know, we’ve been meeting up like this lately.” The receptionist said while taking off her sunhat to scratch her head. “Sunday, Wednesday, today- we keep seeing each other like this!”
“Sorry if it bothers you.” The Navy blue adult said. “Besides, I’m just here to deliver these papers of agreement to the head.” He then brought out some documents to hand to the pink female who took it.
“Ooooh!” Runini replied while perking up a bit, putting the sunhat back on. “I’ll hand it off to the head first thing! Anything else?”
“Just a quick question though- what time do you get on and off?” Sododo asked.
“Well, I sort of just got here- I actually start on 9:00 AM, but I came in early to make up for lost time when I came late yesterday.” The Receptionist explained. “But the building doesn’t open until 8:30 though, so I guess I sort of wasted my time huh? Anyways…I get off around 4:30 PM.”
“Well, we have time- want to grab some coffee from a café?” The Lieutenant asked. “I mean it to help you wake you up and occupy your time.”
Runini nodded at the idea and commented. “Sounds like an idea. Got any idea on where to go?”
Later, at a café… What? You expect to know which one? The one Pururu was in during the Kero Zero Mini Movie.
Runini is seen drinking a sip from her brew as Sododo asked, “So why did you become a receptionist for the army if you don’t like it?”
“I’m not much for jobs. I guess you can say that I’m not for talent for anything- spying, shooting, fighting- you know the usual army stuff. I prefer to go with a green thumb or even a designer.” Runini commented. “I hate violence to be honest so being a receptionist for the army is kind of…ironic if it’s the right word. And my gardening skills aren’t as good as others, so I wasn’t able to get the job unless I practice which I was doing last night. And not to mention I don’t have much of a sense of fashion or anything.”
“Ah, so you wanted to be a gardener then?” Lieutenant said. “Good choice- grow vegetables for a healthy community or for yourself and family. But I gotta comment though- how did you secure a job at the army?”
“My father dropped off a resume at the office and well, I guess I got hired as a Receptionist to fill in someone whenever they are out.” The pink keronian said, although slightly ashamed. “Now it just pretty much upgraded to full time.”
“Why do you hate violence though?” The officer asked. “Did something happen?”
“Well… Several years ago, when I was child, I watched some old movies of Keronians at war. What I seen wasn’t pretty at all. It was…horrible. I didn’t want to see more of it so I stopped and head to bed faster than you can Run-run-run!” The receptionist described. “But then the nightmares came… and well, that made me even more scared. After a while I finally got over the dreams, but I still don’t want to go into the army.”
“Huh. That must’ve been a scary experience for you during childhood.” Sododo commented, although his expression only slightly changed.
“HEY! That’s sort of rude to keep a face like that!” Runini exclaimed with an angry look.
“Sorry it’s just that I sort of seen this sort of thing before, nightmare wise.” Sododo explained. “Carrying on, what would your dream job be?”
“Being a gardener, just as I said before when I wanted to work. But to be honest, I don’t want to be a gardener for the army- making food for soldiers.” Runini commented. “I forgot to mention that the criminal was in the army at one point. When I heard the report I assumed that the army was a dangerous place to be- Full of blood thirsty soldiers and that. Guess I was wrong about you, though…you actually want to resolve things peacefully. Anyways, back on subject, why would kids want or would be scouted for the army is pretty much anyone’s guess.”
“The army search for talent that can be used for combat or anything to help bolster their ranks. It doesn’t matter if you’re a child- once the army scouted you out and you accept, they expect you to become compliant or else your superiors will kick you out with a bang.” Sododo said. “At least, that’s what I think.”
“Why? Did you have problems with the army?” Runini asked.
“Yes, unfortunately.” The Leader commented. He then looked a random passerby Keronian and then asked, “Err, excuse me, but you wouldn’t happen to have the time would you?”
“Twenty to Eight (7:40).” The individual said, with Sododo giving a quick ‘thank you’ before she moved on.
“What are you doing?” The Receptionist asked.
“I bet you’re wondering on how I became a member of the army myself, right?” Sododo commented. “Once it’s 8:20, we’ll continue our story after work. Is that okay?”
“Errrm…sure, I guess.” Runini replied, although feeling a bit awkward.
“It all started when I younger, around thirteen or so.” The lieutenant explains as it flashes back to almost 14, maybe 15 years ago. “Back when I was a teenager, me and my friend Kabubu had just started to get into girls. Back then, the both of us could be quite difficult to tell apart- we actually had the same skin color, the same hat color, even the same eyes- only our manners and symbols set us apart. You could say that we’re like twins or something.”
“Twincest much?” Runini randomly commented before giving a quick giggle and saying, “Sorry, I couldn’t resist- I assumed that since you said you both look like alike except for personality and symbols, that’s like…wow. Anyways, go on.”
“…ANYWAYS…” The leader commented, noticeably annoyed by the receptionist’s comment. “My father is a respected member of the army- Calm cool, collected, a high ranking officer- Well, at least a Captain. Anyways, I was proud of my father of how he was a war hero in the battlefield. I wanted to be just like him, so I became a stronger- soon I managed to tap into my father’s side of traits- superior strength. That was then that the army scouted me out but my father declined- he needed me to train. One year during training, I was 16 at the time when I came across an unusual sight...”
Keron: 9.4 years (9 Years, at least 4 or 5 months) ago: (December 7th 21:30 Hours)
“My father asked me to take a bit of lesson from a disguise expert, because they’ll be a time in the army when we have to hide who we are. It was then that he asked to go to the aid of Officer Ryoyo.” Sododo explained. “The officer usually is an unorthodox individual- he prefers to go around wearing disguises to track down his targets. He usually wears clothes that cover him completely from top to bottom, only showing his mouth. And when he makes the bust and move he pins down the individual, immobilize them. He then tosses the disguise to reveal who he is. On duty, he’s tricky guy to read. But off duty, he’s actually quite a good guy. My father knew that I would have to go through those odd missions so he had me train with him.”
Sododo (as a tadpole keronian) was seen walking down the street with an Officer. The individual was brown in color with a paler shade for eye color Keroro style, with an officer’s hat. “Now I know your father wanted me to train you, but here in the streets it’s between you and what could possibly be the criminals. You could end up in trouble and fall with the wrong crowd, but since you’re hanging with me, that shouldn’t happen…hopefully.” The Officer said as he continued. “Now what I’m going to teach you should help out when you’re disguised.” He then held up one finger and said, “Rule number 1 for the disguised- choose which clothes you wear. For instance, wearing a trench coat, pants, shoes, and a hat that covers you entirely without showing your skin- that will help you keep the guesses coming but be careful or else they might figure you out and pull a gun on you. Number 2 when you’re disguised- develop a fake persona. While out in the field disguised, you should develop a fake name for yourself so the criminal won’t catch on.”
“Develop a fake persona…got it.” Sododo commented as he wrote down the directions on a notepad. “So the persona you develop depend on what clothes you wear, Ryoyo?”
“OFFICER Ryoyo.” Ryoyo said, correcting the younger man, pointing at the younger Keronian with the two fingers he’s holding up. “Anyways, yes if you make up a name and explain a tiny bit of believable data about yourself then you might, just might, end up fooling the criminal or target.” He then held up the third finger as if to continue his explanation. ‘Number 3- do not attempt to break character. If you end up breaking character, you’ll end up giving your criminal a hint to figuring out who you are, or worse of all give yourself away. It takes nerves of steel to keep focus. Number 4- If you’re going to switch characters or disguises, keep a written combination to know which one disguise you’re trying to remember. Trust me- if you’re to have multiple disguises, then you’ll need a way to remember them all. Writing it down is good, but keeping a massive mental note is something to have incredible memory. I have a good memory but only for those I know I could easily do for disguises. Rule 5- NEVER use the same combination twice. The enemies could up hearing rumors about that particular disguise so disguising yourself with different getups help out.”
“But you usually reveal yourself at the end once you capture them, so wouldn’t that be redundant?” Sododo said.
“And here’s rule number 6: Keep the enemies guessing. Sometimes you gotta clear that memory right out of the system. For criminal’s cases, I usually do it to them. You can also hide your true identity to even trick the criminal. Heck even changing symbols, Keronian hats, and even getting something that will give you a different voice works too!” Ryoyo answered. “Anyways, Sododo, here is a good disguise for you to use.” The brown Keronian then pulled out an officer’s costume. “For Criminals, they think that civilians are easy pickings to nab, but as an officer, they tend to get nervous.”
“But you aren’t you officer yourself?” The Navy blue Keornian commented plainly as he takes the costume. “But anyways, I see your point- lesser Criminals unless insane tend to get nervous.” After getting the outfit on, the (at least at the time) future leader of Fortress looked to be an officer Keronian in Uniform. “How is it?”
“Not too shabby! I think you might end up filling in an Officer’s uniform. But in any case…” The officer said, but then the two heard the sound of someone coughing, and sounded close. “Wait, what was that?”
“It looked it come from this way. C’mon!” Sododo said as he went towards the source of the source of before the two stopped short of where the sound came from. “What the/What the hey?” The navy blue and brown Keronians responded respectively.
It was a black and red Keronian child with a red hat, shivering from the night air. In his arms appear to a be a snowy white Keronian baby with a blue hat- and both of their symbols is the stars with wings symbol- it was none other than Omnini and Omimi, who is at the time 6 years and 1 year old respectively! The sound of the cough came from Omnini, who looked to be a bit red in the face. “Uh- hey, are you alright young man?” Ryoyo asked the boy, who gave a cautious ‘huh?’
“Who are you…?” Omnini asked, with a bit of a sickly tone to his voice.
“I’m…Er, Officer Sododo. This is my partner, whose name will be kept for the sake of conversation.” The fake officer said.
“You…look a little small to be an officer.” The black and red child responded, with the navy blue Keornian giving a bit of an angry vein.
“Alright, that’s enough.” Ryoyo said. “What’s your name son? And why do you have a baby in your arms?”
“I-I’m Omnini.” The boy responded. “This is my baby sister, Omimi. And before you ask, we don’t have a home… at least, not anymore.”
“What happened to ya, kid?” The real officer asked. “Parents gone? Kidnapping victims? Run away from home?”
“Our parents were killed by an odd monster.” Omnini said before giving a loud cough, although thankfully it wasn’t enough to wake up the sleeping infant. “We ran away from home in order to escape it, but we never been to the city before.”
“We’ll help you out there, kid.” Sododo said as he picked him up and for Ryoyo to be handed the baby. “Officer, should we bring them back?”
“Well, I dunno- I don’t know what kind of monster he seen.” Officer Ryoyo commented. “But we should take them in anyways- just in case.”
“It looks the boy here happens to be having the case of a cold… or at least a sore throat. I got something for him.” Sododo said as he took out a Lemon candy and popped it into the black and red tadpole’s mouth. “There we go. Don’t spit it out.”
“Th-thank you…” Omnini said, sounding a touch better.
‘The Boy I found there is someone who I am going to run into a few times of my life- He’s going to be the leader of the Winged Elemental Corps.’ Sododo described. ‘And before you ask, it’s not much of a coincidence. Omnini looked to of been sleeping outside trying to make sure that his sister is warm.’
Present Day: Keron; Café
“So that little boy you found off the streets was actually going to be leader of a platoon?” The pink female said. “But what would happen if you haven’t found him though?”
“Two things possibly- we were around a bad neighborhood so he could’ve been taken in by some thieves, or they could’ve been left for dead. If anything, that’s one thing I don’t regret doing- saving the two I mean.” Sododo said.
“Okay, so anything else worth noting?” Runini asked, curious to know what’s happening.
“After finding the two, we figured that they were ordinary, so we sent them to a local orphanage nearby the Police building Ryoyo works. Afterwards it was business as normal. But it wasn’t until sometime after my 19th birthday that disaster struck- at week.”
7.7 Years (7 Years and 8 months estimated) ago: Graveyard
Sododo is seen looking over a grave whose name was blocked by his shadow though his face isn’t seen. The navy blue adult bends down to touch the tombstone. He just gave a sigh.
“’Ey Sododo!” Kabubu called out as he approached the male. In the past, Kabubu looked fairly identical to Sododo- blue skin, white hat with the same eyes too. “Everything alright?”
“You know what happened.” The male said with an angry tone. “My father was KIA. And now my mother now up and left me to fend for myself. What am I supposed to do, now?”
“Yer old enough to find an apartment, right?” The Keronian with the bomb symbol asked. “…Well if ye had a job that is.”
“I was talking about being only the left in the family.” Sododo said with a bored expression. “I wasn’t talking about being unable to find an apartment.”
“Ach, no need to be so bloody cross about it, mate!” Kabubu responded.
“…And has anyone told you your accent was Atrocious.” The older one of the two responded.
“Ach, no need ter be…” Kabubu just sighed before speaking normally. “Argh, fine! If you want to be a whiny spoilsport about it, then fine by me. I was just here to ask about what you’re going to do now?”
“…I’m not sure to be honest.” Sododo said before standing up. “I can’t decide on what to do now. Dad helped me to train for the army, because I wanted to be in it. But…that was mostly to please my own father.”
“Well, why don’t you then?” The future Warrant Officer asked.
“Well… I honestly don’t know now. I was so sure about it before, but…this is a bit of an upset when it comes to change.” Sododo admits.
“…You always haven’t been fond of ‘drastic changes’.” Kabubu said before his lookalike tries to bash his head. “Seriously, you never liked them! Like when we were kids, you never wanted to get a girlfriend ‘cause you were so worried that you might end up in a manipulative relationship or she might be clingy- taking a lot of your time for yourself!”
“…You always know me far too well at this point.” The older of the two blue adults commented. “…So what do you want?”
“Well, you can always bunk with me and my family!” Kabubu said, prompting the sword emblazoned member to look. “Seriously, we have an extra room yer can use! You won’t even impose and not even cause trouble- you’ve been a good sport for us for years- even me pop is alright with it!”
“…Thanks.” Sododo said with a small smile. “…You really know how to bring me up to good spirits, even if it is just a tiny bit.”
“Glad to ‘elp, mate!” Kabubu responded, this time with the accent.
Present Day: Café
Sododo took a bit of a sip of his cup of juice before to say, “My best friend was the kindest he has ever been- he gave a new home…but disaster soon fell on him as well when he turned 18. Like my mother before his, his mother was gone. Both he and his father agreed on something as did I: something didn’t add up. My mother and Kabubu’s wouldn’t go up and leave. They couldn’t have just disappeared. But…I’m thinking that there’s a connection- my mother disappeared as did Kabubu’s mother, and a few individuals went missing as well. Some of the people went missing around here at this time as well- some of them was a couple of guys you would see here in this coffee shop.”
“You know, now that you mention it, I did notice that less people were here.” Runini admits. “Anyways…want to talk more about the scenario you were talking about?”
“Ah yes- we were talking about the disappearances. They were closely linked and we began to notice that people were disappearing. I decided that in order to investigate, I needed to go to the aid Officer Ryoyo about this. However, he hasn’t a clue about this. He figured that the military might know- they have been known to have scientists, so he theorizes that maybe people being pluck off the street might be related to a scientist.” Sododo said.
“…WHAT kind of Scientists would deliberately do that?” Runini admits as she looked to tremble a bit, causing the cup to shake a bit, spilling bits of its contents.
“I don’t know. But calm down- you’re just making a mess the waitresses will only clean up later. And not to mention you can hurt yourself.” The mercenary leader admitted.
“Gee- thanks.” The Receptionist replies with sarcasm. “I bet you’re this nice to any girl you meet.”
“I treat people equally- I treat them like how I treat my friends.” Sododo admits.
“Oh so you’re nice but can be a bit of a jerk.” The Receptionist admits with sarcasm again.
“NOT what I meant.” Sododo replied with an angered expression. He softened it as he continues. “…Sometime after taking me in, Kabubu’s dad noticed that we finally entered the army- we needed additional equipment and tools to survive in the front lines. He taught his son how to build his own explosives since he’s a pyrotechnics expert, while I was taught in the way of the sword, and learned about upholding ones honor. But I for one am not a killer- I have a sense of mercy, and the blade I was given was meant to weaken, never to kill. But there are times in which I had to ‘play executionor’ to dirty my own hands. I was given a jet black gun with skulls on either side of it- the ‘Death Penalty.’ It was a gun specifically designed for executions, and nothing else. I was also an authorization to use a Uzi too- you know, one of those guns you would see. And so after a bit of a debate, we decided to call our Platoon, ‘Fortress’ with me as the leader.”
“Okay, so you don’t kill anyone with the sword- just with the gun, and you named your platoon for something you would build…or something else I think.” Runini admitted. “…Why Fortress?”
“…To be fairly honest, I hadn’t decided on a name, so I just thought of this and it was like this ever since.” The leader admitted with a sheepish look.
“You and your friend are weirdos…” The pink Keronian admitted. “Speaking of which, didn’t you say that your friend still looked a lot like you? Whatever happened to that?”
“…Your timing’s impeccable- I was just starting onto that part.” Sododo admitted with a small smile. “Let’s see…it must’ve happened when I was 21 and Kabubu’s 20.”
“How old are you now?” Runini asked politely.
“Let’s see…if I remember right, based on date…Kabubu’s around Twenty… he’s 25 by now- I’m 27.” Sododo said. “Next month on the 28th he’ll turn 26 and in August, I’ll be 28 on the 19th- I’m usually 2.23 years (2 years, 2 months, 3 weeks) ahead of him give and take a couple of days.”
“Ooooooh okay.” Runini admitted. “So that’s around a short….six point something years ago.”
“Six point…8 years ago?” Sododo estimated. “Well, VERY close to the year- it would’ve after I turned 22 that he changed skin color anyways now that I think about it.
6.8 Years (6 Years and 10 Months) ago: Keron Hospital
‘We were in a mission in tough battles with Vipers. Problem is then sent out a grenade against us- I got out of there, but Kabubu wasn’t so lucky- his eyes got badly irritated from the smoke created. Thankfully he wasn’t injured too badly so we got him to the hospital.’ Sododo narrated. ‘However…there are some things that happened there that we needed to discuss some things…’
Hospital Room (Kabubu)
Sododo was sitting in a chair when was looking to his friend, who was wearing bandages on his eyes. Sododo looked like he was there for days as he looked to be sleepy as Kabubu just sighed. “Oi, Sododo.”
“Yeah?” Sododo responded.
“Thanks for helping me to the Hospital, ol’ buddy.” The Demolition Keron responded. “The doc said that should be getting out tomorrow.”
“Really? But you were injured in that battle.” The swordsman responded. “Why would you want to come out early?”
“The Doc’s pulled a testing on me- turns out me eyes became super sensitive- you know, to light. But when we had a bit of a fire earlier, I managed to get in there and put it out, even with the smoke in the way.” Kabubu said. “Turns out we founded something.”
“What do you mean?” Sododo asked.
“Them chemicals from the bomb actually did somethin’ to me eyes- while making them sensitive, it also allowed them to…well see through smokescreens like no one’s business- they even tested it and it proved somethin’ to me!” The Keronian described with a smile.
“Turns out what I gained in sensitivity I also got with the ability to see through smoke!”
“That’s…lucky, I guess.” The future leader admitted. “Seriously, you lucked out- I’m surprised you didn’t lose your eyesight altogether- even in one eye.”
“Ach, no- that would me a one eyed demoman!” Kabubu admitted with a cheeky smile. “And no one would like that! And people would probably say I get drunk! And no lady unless they’re into it wouldn’t go for a guy like me!”
“Pffft, yeah, something like that.” Sododo said before the two shared a laugh. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
“Yeah…but I got somethin’ to say.” Kabubu said. “Seriously.”
“Huh?” Sododo said before looking to his friend.
“Being in that smokescreen bomb got me thinkin’- and I had some time to think on it.” The demo Keron admitted. “I’m a son of a bloody bomb maker- and I know that me bombs aren’t perfect. I gotta make sure me bombs work, or else all I’d be throwin’ are duds. And that means getting in there.”
“WHAT?” Sododo with his eyes widened. “That’s crazy! That would mean that you would be blown to bits! Why would deliberately do that?!”
“Ach, true it be crazy, but I also heard somethin’- word on the wire here some people are gettin’ genetically modified. While not a truly ethical process…if I could scrounge up enough money, then I could pay for a surgery to modify me skin to take explosions!
Well…burns and stuff like that.” The Demo Kero admitted.
“…Even if we do have the money, which we don’t, then what would you do with it?” Sododo asked.
“Ach, I’d walk into my own explosions- excluding shrapnel ones of course which would hurt like a mother- you know.” Kabubu admitted. “It should toughen me skin to resist being blown apart.”
“…You are really a crazy or thinking of something like that.” The Future leader admitted.
“Ya, but you gotta be crazy to think of it.” Kabubu said. “Plus money is one thing we don’t usually have.”
“Yeah, sadly…” Sododo said.
“…You know, I got another crazy idea!” Kabubu admitted. “Why not work for other platoons for money?”
“…Huh?” The blue Keronian said, looking intrigued but confused.
“We can become Mercenaries!” The explosives expert said with a big smile.
"Mercenaries?" a Confused Sododo asked.
"You know- 'ave some people 'ire our services for those who needs the help. We can get paid to finance our stuff and earn some extra dough!" Kabubu replied with a smile.
“…You know, I gotta admit, that doesn’t like a bad idea at first glance. But it has some holes in it if I think about it a little.” The future leader said.
“Ach, don’t be a spoilsport man!” The Demoman responded. “…But unfortunately, I see what ya mean.”
“Yeah. For one, the army might not go for it- there are criminals out there that would take advantage of this work- and not to mention there are enemies out there that would take advantage and use us against the Keronian army.” Sododo said. “So here’s the smarter idea unless you want to say it.”
“Newbie platoons just starting out or Platoons of lacking experience? It sounds like we’re both on the same wavelength again!” Kabubu said with a big smile.
“I knew you would say that. In all these years, we’re still in sync with each other. Makes you wonder if we are related.” The swordsman said.
“Well once this experimental procedure is done, there won’t be similarity!” The individual responded. “…But now we’re gonna need a nice name for our new business.”
“…I think I have the name in mind…” Sododo admitted, thinking.
Present day: Café
“You know, you’re telling me some very strange stuff.” Runini admitted. “Anything else worth telling me about?”
“Well there is one thing we can tell you about…you remember-”
“Boss!” A familiar voice interrupted to show Puriri walking in. She already noticed the two as she approached them. “Morning!”
“Morning Puriri.” Sododo acknowledged. “Er, don’t mind us all that much.”
“…You two on a date or something?” Puriri asked with Runini instantly blushing.
“Wh-what?!” The Receptionist exclaimed. “We are not! Your boss just offered me some coffee and that’s just about it!”
“Jeez, sorry.” Puriri admitted as –The Young Sorceress’ Foul Mood- (from Tales of Vesperia) plays. “I only assumed because you two were sitting together here, sipping on Coffee.
“Well you assumed wrong.” Sododo said. “Besides, I was telling stories to our receptionist friend here some stories about the origins of our Platoon and each member while she records it.”
“What?” Runini said, with a blank look on her face before showing a highly tech mic and recorder within her sunhat. “How’d you know??”
“You did an awful job hiding it in a completely obviously place to put it- especially considering that you have two hats.” Sododo said showing the gap where the mic was.
“If you knew that I was recording, then why didn’t you stop?” The Receptionist asked.
“I merely thought you were recording for reference. Plus, sometimes you need a reminder on things in case you forget later.” Sododo admitted.
“Wait, so what did you tell her?” Puriri asked.
“From my childhood to when I was visiting Kabubu in the hospital- just forgot to add that Kabubu was busy so I was filling in.” The swordsman added.
“…Er, what time is it?” Runini asked, now all nervous and fidgety.
“Eight O’clock, why?” Puriri replied with an odd expression.
“Well, maybe I should go check if someone came early! See you after work!!” Runini said before fleeing away with a skittish fashion.
“…” The two just gave odd expressions before sighing as the theme ends.
