...and he really don't care. Even Shaz needs a chance to relax and enjoy some quiet time.

I haven't really too much to say about this one. Except for that my scanner really hates me some days. It kinda washed out some of the colors. Oh well.

Colored pencil and acrylic paint in a 11x14in sketch-pad. (I really need to look into buying a sketch pad with thicker paper... )

Maybe you don't have tip-ex there? It's a white correction fluid you use to cover up pen and biro misakes. Works like paint, but very smelly.

O-oh~ I see~

We call it "White-out" over here. I've never really used it in place of paint. It's too pasty and the fumes are too noxious for me, and to me it dries too grey. Half the time the brushes dry up inside the bottle before I can get any decent use out of it. I like to use the White-out pens though for things like fixing a line-art before it goes on the scanner. Those last for awhile and can get into tiny places.

I like to use Liquitex "BASICS" acrylics 'cuz it comes out thick 'n bold, or you can thin it to be almost like watercolor. My favorite white is the titanium white, because I think it's the brightest white that they've got. It even makes gesso look dingy. Sometimes I cheat with "DecoArt" acrylics which can have glitter or pearly-shimmies added to them. I'm trying to find something that I can add to the paint that'll make them look wet (for deeper/richer color,) even though they're dry. One thing that bugs me about acrylic is that it dries too flat, and all the cool details/effects you put into it fade as it dries. I know I've used some in school, but I can't remember what my art instructor called it or where she ordered it from.

Hmmm... I should scare her one day and spontaneously show up at the school just to ask her!

Makes me think of Big the Cat's theme: "Lazy Days ~Adventures in Paradise~" (I think the title is correct).

*shivers* I dunno what expression you were going for in his eyes, but it sure doesn't look like 'bored' to me!
Gah, your detail skills and attention shame everyone else; you rock!! !! I'm almost expecting him to start breathing the more I stare! You are forever fabulous, my dear.

I was going for one of those 'amused' expressions that sarcastically say "Yes? Can I help you with something?"

Man, I love what you do with this guy's quills, and I really like how his fur looks like tiny quills!
He has a cute expression, too
I wish I could color like you... :3

Hedgehog fur is actually kinda course. Their softest spots are their cheeks, under their arm-pits, and down along the sides of their bellies. I tried my best to illustrate the texture change from the fur on his belly to his back which is of course the fur thins to become quills. I think it will be easier to illustrate on characters like Shaz, Malachi, 'n such before I totally figure it out for Shugo. (He's a floof-ball!)

My next characters to tackle are the echidnas, foxes, 'n squirrels, 'n such. I've never touched an echidna, but I've seen one up close. Hopefully I can get them to look as convincing as the other guys.

Oh yes, I think you did awsome with the fur and the quills like that- you really make me want to put that much detail into my anthro character pictures, but I'm kind of scared to because my characters look nothing like the animals they're supposed to be...

You're lucky then, I wish I've seen a real echidna. I bet they're cool D= And, I bet you'll do a great job!

Yeah, echidnas are really weird looking little critters. I've yet to figure out how to make a Mobian echidna look like one without loosing too much of their "Mobian" design.

Aww~ Don't be afraid of trying new things. Just play with it. That's what I do. If something looks too funny, I scrap it and try another approach. That's the only way to keep learning. ^_^

Hm, if you need any help with that, I could help you. I live to think up creative things n_n

I went though a spurt of adding extreme details to my characters, once. But I just can't seem to stick with that style. I wish I could, though, but I have a really short attention span and just can't focus on my pictures long enough to pull it off any more. And taking a break wouldn't help, because then I'd lose total interest in the picture... xD;

I think it's a mind over matter thing when you tweak a design on a character. You have to put aside everything you've already seen or heard about it and just go with your own thing. One of the first major "re-designs" I every did was for a pegasus. It started out as a simple assignment for Drawing Level 3 in highschool. But then I really went into the underlying mechanics of it all, and I ended up coming up with a totally new skeletal/muscle/basic-biology for a pegasus. (My teacher was overwhelmed by it all... he said he felt like he was looking through a "Zoobook." )

Well anyway, once you've got a new design worked out, you just gotta keep at it, and try not to revert back to old ways. After a while, it just gets easier.

Whoa, that sounds so cool! I really wish I could see it...

Welp, my oldest style was probably my most popular. But then I suddenly went into the annoyingly detailed style, but began to revert back, now I'm caught in between. xD I don't feel like going either way now, for some reason, though. Which is weird, because usually I'm freaking out about my art not being detailed enough with my current style... Ah, I'm just a weird person n_n;

Weirdo~

Naw, in between is good. I do a lot of "in between" stuff. The little of extra floof or strand of fur gives the viewer a better idea of the texture you're trying to illustrate, than a furry that has no floof at all.
