So here I am again, this time with a +fav. I commented on this earlier, but when I saw it in the Street Contest, It just stood out at me again. There are some GREAT pictures in that contest too, but for some reason, this one just really kept pulling at me. So there you have it- a comment, a fav, a DD and my vote!

this is an amzing photo. the comp may look a bit staged, but it is perfect. the value scale is rich and well varied. the subject matter is heart breaking and you tell the story well here, like a true photographer. extremely well done.

and in this deviation i just want to show the reality that trully happen in Indonesia, and maybe in some other part of the world..

when i said "staged", i really meant that i thought the pose was completely set up/controlled by you: you orchestrating the various elements. i had no idea that this was a spontaneous capture!!! everything in the photo seems so perfect. the bucket for instance is centered within the circular pattern of the stone pavers, and the little one is curled up just right in kind of a fetal position so as to confirm/emphasize the wonderful round pattern. the photo is really amazing. i love the closeness also of the lens to the subject matter. this gives a real sense of immediacy. (i only wish the foot wasn't cropped off at the bottom.) my hats off to you, you are very talented.
wow... but now my hear breaks even more for Indonesia; to think that these children are living like this. what an unbearable pain. i wish that there was something that i could do, and that the muslim world would mobilize itself to stop this tragedy.
i wish you all the best and hope that you continue to do very great work. keep documenting with this strong, 'in your face' truth what's going on.

ok now, i now what you mean with words "staged" as you can see in my journal, you can see the link in the deviation description... you will know why i take this photo.
But actually when i take photo from the children, there are so many thugs around them, and this children was protected by them. The reason why the children living in the street because of their parents, they are a poor family and they sent the children to make money and become a beggar so their parents can be rich..tragedy isn't? and more tragedy is their parents just always making kids and kids and kids...So, they can make a lots of money from their kids.
And their parents give some money to the thugs (bad guys.red). This kind of situation is just like a job, they pretending to sleep so can have a money from the people who care about them, but actually its a fake..
Why i can know about all this situation. Because i was there, and i ask some informant that actually their mother (the informant)!! same when i took these photo (hanya aku dan kalengku), i was being chase by those thugs because they was afraid if the photo i take released to the local newpaper cause they also think i was a journalis in the newspaper..maybe thats why i was not take a good attention to the foot that being cropted...cause like i said, i was chasing by those thugs...hehehhee 
well, i'm sorry if not good in english, and maybe become not get in it about what trying to talk about.. sorry!! its all just i can say to you. But, its a new experience for me to be a photo journalis even only for a day...hehehe...thanks..salam

what a sad story... it is inconceivable to me that people can use/abuse children in such a way. think about it; children are such a divine blessing and mercy from Allah, and look how callous people can be with such a gift. how they will answer for their actions in the hereafter.

I think it's interesting that there's such a huge contrast in the photo. The paving is so nicely paved out - that means a lot of money was invested onto the hardscape - and yet, such a fragile and small child was laying on top of it...
