The Ajax-class Escort Carrier is one of the workhorses which served the former Phoenix Empire as well as the Earth Federation's Space Navy

Roughly the same length as the Venator-class Star Destroyer, the Ajax-class can carry 3 wings of starfighters and bombers yet due to poor designs of the interior hangar, can only carry up to 60 mobile-suits.

The Ajax-class is viewed mainly as a support ship and mismanagement within the EFF and Phoenix Militaries completely led to a lack of confidence in the design.

The worst scenario is realized during the Delaz Fleet Uprising which Ajax-class Carriers are overwhelmed by the Zeon Malcontents under the command of Ace pilot Anavel Gato.

Following the abolishment of the Phoenix Empire, many Ajax-class Escort Carriers fell into the hands of numerous space pirates and Malcontents. In the EFF, the Ajax-class Carriers were heavily employed but the Gryps War alone saw them being wasted in the Titans Schism which tore the paramilitary organization apart and in Glemmy Toto's failed uprising, Glemmy commanded one such Escort Carrier before making a final bid to assassinate Haman Karn but was ruthlessly killed by Marida Ikari.

by 2018, the Ajax-class series was discontinued and the last of these escort carriers were moth balled until they were employed by the Resistance in their final showdown against both the First Order and the Neo-Sith Army's massive Armada.
