Akio Hirokawa is an officer in the Japanese Self-Defense Force during the Age of the Eternal War's Vengeance Wars Period of 2016-2021.

A promising if dishonest officer, Hirokawa is a member of Hikaru Nishida's Ultra-Nationalist group which desires to overthrow the current Japanese Government in order to return Japan to a 'pure Japanese state', indicating a restoration of the very Imperial system which led to Japan to forging an empire before it made the fatal mistake of attacking Pearl Harbor and joining the Axis Powers in World War II.

Hirokawa doesn't really care about the lives of the TA unit's pilots since to him, they are all expendable pawns to achieving Nishida's dreams yet comes into open conflict with Yushio Gowa over his methods.

When Nishida launches his coup, Hirokawa coordinate units loyal to the group but was overwhelmed when forces loyal to both the Colonel and the Crimson Phoenix upstages the conspirators by staging a coup of their own, overthrowing the corrupted Japanese Security Council and declaring a State of Martial Law.

Unable to make decisions as a result of this unpredented move and completely unsure on what to do, Hirokawa is ordered by Nishida to have their troops surrender to the superior enemy before the latter commited Seppuku.

Hirokawa was among those arrested and charged with crimes of sedition and high treason, which he was eventually sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.
