Description
You know the phrase “face the firing squad?” Well, what sorts of things does the firing squad face?'Tis for the Fortitude contest in the Anthro Gallery, part of the 7 sins/virtues contests for DA's 7th bday: [link] Fortitude is courage in the face of adversity. And I think there's nothing more courageous than being able to take a stand on something you believe in.
This is kinda' related to a previous picture of mine ([link] ). It's not quite a continuation of the story, since I've changed a number of the details. But I guess it's like some sort of alternate dimension world where Axel chooses a different path. Or something. (Axel is my bat chara in the front there, sadly named before Kingdom Hearts II)
Backstory? Well, I guess I could always let the image explain some of its thousand words. ^_~
Also, I’d like to also mention that I’m not trying to make any anti-war statements here. I tried to make the uniforms/location/weapons as nonspecific as I could, though I know very little about military uniforms or weapons.
EDIT (8-23-07) Ah hah. More than a week later, and I realize that Fortitude is actually one of the themes in that 100 Themes challenge! How amazingly perfect! So here we are, 20. Fortitude for the 100 Themes, 100 Drawings Challenge! ([link] )

Why would he have joined the army in the first place if he wasn't willing to kill?

well I can understand the bat, because I am now in the age to join the army (in Germany, where I live

One complaint- Why would the firing squad use shotguns? Don't they usually use Rifles?

I absolutely love it. The wonderful expression of his face is matched so well by body languaje! I really like all the different expressions and the idea behind this image, the courage of saying enough when it's needed, which most people has a hard time with.

Nice! I love the expressions on all the charas, but Axel's is my favorite. I like his foot too, it turned out really good. I also like how this is related to your other picture, I always though Axel was looking at something, rather than turning away. I see it now...thanks for clarifying!

Oh. My gosh. This looks great yes with the emotion and the background an' all. The outfits are great too and I like all the different expressions of the back characters.
But what's really awesome is that horse dude. I really hope that I didnt offend. This is a very awesome piece with the reasons stated above and more, it's just that I've NEVER, in ages, seen a standing horse. Just. Omg. It's brilliant
I was going to enter that contest as well, but my entry was taking too long to finish and I started school on Monday

Awsome! I love the look on the bats face, angry at the very idea of what they are doing ^.^ and even the dog and bunny looking at eachother like they know it is wrong. But what is the officer doing there? In the middle of the war?

Whats really cool is how you can face such insane, 'touchy' topics and merge them with your (yes, cute!) style. It works and doesn't dampen the message at all.

I really love the expressions of the other soldiers. They seem so shocked and the two closet to Axel seem so questioning. It's hard to tell if they agree with him and are about to walk away as well or if they're just saying, "I can't believe he would do that."
I love Axel's expression most of all. He defiantly looks like he was just pushed over the emotional edge.

EEYAY I love how it turned out; You always take a buhjillion years on the coloring, but that's why it always turns out with such great craftsmanship. I love the camo, its subtle but there.
