Description Jackson "J.J." Jones didn't have it easy growing up in the lower end of South City. But he pushed himself, trying to improve on his unsavory beginnings. He honed his body and mind, using study and exercise as distraction from the drugs-and-gangs temptations his neighbors too-easily fell into.

Soon, highschool graduation became college scholarship, which in-turn became army enrollment, as Jackson could see no nobler goal after college than serving his country. But war tends to break-down even the noblest souls; some in mind, a few in spirit, but many in body. A roadside ambush prefaced by encounter with an IED left Jackson absent an arm and in critical care.

Battered past recognition and near-death, he was monitored by a clandestine wing of the government known only as The Company, who had seen his service record and knew of his struggling to rise from stifling origins most would be crushed under. They were impressed by the young man's deeds, and deemed him worthy of their newest creation: the MIDAS Project.

He was withdrawn from military service and public record, effectively declared dead for the sake of national security. His body was rebuilt from the damage he'd suffered, an assault that would've otherwise left that powerful body and nimble mind worthless in the shell of a comatose and withered vegetable. He was enhanced to human peak and beyond - faster, stronger, more agile and dextrous than even the best athletes, housed in a nigh-impenetrable defensive suit of polymerized alloys, all while retaining the quick wit and deep intellect he'd honed admirably on his own.

His arm, however, was irrevocably lost in the attack, and thus he was given what he grew to calling his "Golden Gun" - a fully cybernetic replacement integrated with his suit and under the same mental command as his own organic arm once was, but capable of even greater feats of strength and dexterity than even the rest of his enhanced body, as well as the ability to interface both directly and remotely with various forms of computer networks and electronic equipment.

But even military service as a superhuman can grow weary after a time, especially when ones opponents are all merely human, serving their countries just as Jackson had his own. So Jackson delivered his ultimatum to his observers in The Company... he no longer wished to see his talents wasted on fighting regular people - they gave him such might for a reason, and he was sure this was not the reason why.

To his surprise, this was exactly what they wanted him to say - they were simply waiting to see how long it would take him to decide to say it. That was when "phase two" of the project was revealed to him. As it turns out, Jackson was not alone in his abilities "beyond those of mortal men". No, there were many like him working in secret, some with powers of natural or even mystical means, some artificially-endowed like himself. Some superhumans were good, but many were also quite bad. This was why he'd been given the "touch of MIDAS" - to join his fellow "superheroes" in defending the world from threats ordinary people simply couldn't handle.
