Snakes have varying abilities to see distances and perceive depth. Those that live underground may process only light and dark, while those that hunt by sight have crystal clear vision. Although their vision in general is worse in terms of distance and clarity than that of a human, they have a remarkable ability to detect movement. Boas, pythons, and pit vipers also have pit organs on their head that are sensitive to changes in temperature, equipping them with an effective "heat vision."
