I'm back!

For the entire summer, I have been saving up for a new laptop just so I can get back to making digital art, especially for this site, and now I finally got it done. Just because I didn't have a drawing app for a while, however, doesn't mean I was cut off from the internet completely, as I have a smart TV and a smart phone, through which I ended up stumbling across some interesting videos, especially for this show "Dorg Van Dango" (which aired in every country-- it's native Canada included-- except for the United States, which I hope would eventually change even if via Netflix)... one of the characters-- a unicorn named Jet Lazor-- was especially interesting to me, most notably when I read he is (in that show's cannon at least) the last unicorn, which reminded me of the animated film "The Last Unicorn", in which that title fell onto a female unicorn who went by the human alias Lady Amalthea.

That got me thinking: What if these two are mother and son? How did the title of the last unicorn fall differently on Jet compared to how it happened to his mother... what happened to the other unicorns this time? Whatever the story, I figure that if unicorns turn into rainbows when their bodies disappear (either permanently through death or temporarily through the failure to be "baptized" in a witch's cauldron on their one-thousandth human year) Jet would-- should the show get rebooted or continued for another season-- be able to communicate with his mother's spirit when in the presence of rainbows in nature, gaining clues on the possibility to restore their kind to the world, dealing with the hidden trauma of becoming the last unicorn to begin with (I figure those that weren't killed by hunters ended up sent to another dimension via a complex portal ritual), or just generally ask advice and/or just say hello. Whatever the conversation, it would be obvious that Jet missed his mother (though he'd never admit it out loud, as he claims he's "too cool to cry"), and even he would be surprised how much he has in common with her even without the unwanted title of being the last of their kind: they are both confident, proud, and strong willed, they both had experience with incompetent magic users (though it is clear that Patronella-- despite her lack of boundaries when using unicorn samples for spells-- is just a tad more sensible and has more magical control then Smendrick, who freestyles spells without a wand), they both taken up human disguise (except Lady Amalthea was temporarily turned into an actual human via one of Smendrick's spells "doing as it will" and thus almost lost her memories of being a unicorn, while for Jet Lazor just wearing human clothes is enough to fool the crowd... though with the masks most DJs wear it's hardly surprising), and they'd both go great lengths for their friends. The biggest simularity between them, however, is that they both ended up experiencing the human feelings of regret and love, which really sets them apart from other unicorns even when/if the herd is ever restored, yet also makes Jet feel close to his mother even after the rainbow fades and the reality of her being gone comes back to him. Knowing he inherited his mother's heart would give Jet hope and purpose for whatever is ahead for him.
