Description So...I just found out that this picture, right here, is my 666th deviation...Now how weird is it that a haunted picture turns out to be my 666th deviation? What are the odds of that? I am just going to throw this out here...I think this will not be looking good for Sandra and Lady

Number 569

Sandra hadn't been paying much attention as she loped Lady through the dark woods. She just kept the mare on the path that had already been trodden with hooves. Surely they would arrive at any time to the area of the competition. She hummed as she rode, keeping herself entertained and oblivious to everything around her. It wasn't until Lady started to fight her that she slowed down to gather herself and her thoughts.

It was dark. Much darker than it had been when she had first entered. She checked her watch. Surely it wasn't still somewhere around noon? Couldn't have been, she had to have been riding for a few hours or more, so she checked her phone. Sure enough it claimed it was somewhere around 6 PM...now how could she have been riding for 6 hours? No wonder Lady fought her so hard...she was tired. Sandra sighed and slid off the saddle, patting the mare as she did so. Lady nodded her head and slapped the bit around in her mouth a bit before bending down to nibble on some grass. She must have been very hungry and thirsty as well. Sandra checked her phone again. No signal.

"Well just great! It is getting dark and I have no cell service. Jason is going to FREAK!" she said, and led the mare off the trail to the sound of a stream nearby. It wasn't too far off the trail, so Sandra didn't bother marking her way back to it. She sat down as Lady eagerly went to the water to get a long, deep drink. Feeling thirsty herself, Sandra cupped her hands to drink and was immediately satisfied at the cool taste of the water. Lady drank for a while before settling in to graze on the rich grass that surrounded the creek.

It wasn't until then that Sandra started to get a weird vibe from the forest. There were no birds singing their night song, no woodland animals scurrying around, not even a rustle here and there. The forest was quiet...tooo quiet. Trying to get that out of her mind, Sandra began to pace back and forth, thinking about what she should do. She hadn't packed any supplies for camping, not even food for herself. The forest seemed plenty full of grass for Lady to graze on, but it would only give the mare so much energy. Sighing, she went over to Lady who lifter her head and nickered to her.

That was when they heard it. A deep neigh somewhere close by. A voice that sounded extremely dominant and eerie. Lady's head shot up and her ears pinned back. It sounded again, even closer. Sandra wasted no time hopping up on the Nordanner and taking off back to the trail...or where she thought the trail might be. Lady ran faster and faster, desperate to get away from whatever it was that was behind them. After a few minutes, Sandra slowed her down. Lady was trembling all over and snorting and pawing the ground in aggitation. Sandra had never seen her act like this before, not even around the baby dragon she was introduced to a few weeks ago. Feeling the fear in her horse fed the fear into Sandra...and before she knew it, she was crying.

She cried as Lady wandered aimlessly through the forest. There was no point in trying to figure out where they were, they were lost. She checked her phone again. There was one, tiny little bar.

Excited, she punched in Jason's number and stood perfectly still atop Lady, who was still shaking.

"Hey! I have been trying to call you! Did you make it there safely?" Jason asked when he picked up. There was some static, but she heard him.
"No. I am lost...there is something bad...about these woods..." she said, crying into the phone.
"I...a...ming...in" his voice broke as the phone was losing the little bit of signal it had.
"NO! I can do this! Come looking for me in a few days if I don't call you back!" Sandra said.
"Are...sure?" Jason asked.
"Yes! And Jason?" Sandra asked.
"Yea?"
"I love you" she said, her heart beating crazily in her chest.
"Wha...as...hat?" he asked, the phone breaking up again.
"I love you Jason!" She said again. The phone beeped.
"Jason?" Nothing. The call had dropped and there was no longer any signal. She was glad there was at least a full battery on the thing, so she turned it off and clicked Lady back to life.

She felt the strange sensation that someone was watching her, she turned in the saddle and for a fleeting moment, a pair of golden eyes held hers...

They weren't alone.
