"In the early stages of terra-forming the five planets a few groups of criminals formed, they used old cargo ships and small shuttles to board Colonial ships posing as civilians and easily over came the unarmed crews. This went on for quite some time until the U.C.G. (United Colonial Government) was forced to call upon the FARATECH Armory, to design a compact self-defense weapon for Colonial ship crew that can fire in the vacuum of space. This will stop the ‘Space Pirates’ from boarding before breaching the ship hull. The SP-44(Standard-issue Pistol, model of AD2144) was the resulting product.

Conventional firearms will not be able to fire effectively in vacuum space, while the rail propulsion technologies are extremely cost-inefficient in 2100s (Due to the high power requirements of electromagnetic rail). The FARATECH designers used a special means of action, known as the “Sealed Propulsion”. The sealed propulsion employs a set of fully-sealed action parts contained in a polymer frame, as well as custom-made caseless ammunition, which contained oxidizing agent on the primer. Using the oxygen provided by the oxidizing agent, the gunpowder will be able to be ignited, thus propelling the bullet like a conventional pistol. Aside from the proprietary action system, SP-44 is also a compact yet versatile weapon, while featured a default laser pointer under the barrel (Retrofitted with an X5 HUD interface sight in later models), it also had accessory rail interface installed on the top of the slide.

The SP-44 was a successful weapon, when the first batch of pistols were issued to the ship crews of the Colonial Fleet, it was proven to be a effective and deadly pistol, with the non-existence of friction, the effective range of SP-44 is virtually unlimited. The UCG contracted around 5 million of SP-44s to be made, and issued them to military personnel, navy crews, and pioneer teams. It continued to serve the UGC for about a century and a half, as the technology level progressed to enable railgun action to be produced on pistols, SP-44 were gradually phased out by the UGC. However, most of the SP-44s are still issued to UGC’s second-line units and space police units. A notable number of SP-44s had also found its way into black markets, falling into the hands of criminals and pirates.

Throughout 800 years of history, SP-44 was a robust and versatile design that were still produced and used by various arm factories and para-military groups, until the Genetics conquered and almost obliterated Earth. Regardless, SP-44s are still in large quantities and still readily available. "

As I am making more and more concept art for Neo Desire, I decided to present my artwork in a more presentable way, and I also written some background story, to make things more realistic, hope that you enjoy it.
