I always shy away from backgrounds, so I decided to do a background piece just to see how I would do.
The composition of the picture was heavily referenced from: afar-production.imgix.net/uplo…
I changed some details because Chinese architecture is extremely detailed and I could barely finish this piece OTL

Using a painting technique for backgrounds is actually much easier than to have lineart for it, at least for me. Also only works for scenery at this point lol. I will try doing a city or room background using a painting style.
