ooooookay, i'm jumping on the bandwagon and making a unoriginal species.
before I say anything else, these are CLOSED, so if you make one, i'll have to track you down and eat you.
also, forgive me for any spelling errors, it's late, and I don't really free like proofreading.
anyway, get ready for a lot of lame info about these fellas.

Basic Features:
-Fluffy around the neck, chest, and hind legs.
-Must keep their faces mostly covered, or their smoke [life-force, if you will] will drain from their body.
-Smoke leaks from the mouth, nose, eyes [which are empty sockets], and holes on their backs.
-Strong plates on their backs keep the smoke holes closed, but if a Smoke Dog feels threatened, it can raise the plates, causing smoke to pour out of their back, cloaking them, and allowing them to make a stealthy attack/escape.
-They are almost always on the thinner side.
-They may cover their heads with animal skulls [almost any animal], and bandages/cloth.
-They're usually around three feet at the shoulder, give or take a little.
-The only difference between males and females, other than genitalia, is the fur on a male's jawline.
-A smoke tail is possible for them to have, but it's very rare, and the individual needs to be cautious about the amount of smoke it's using.
-They can have piercings, clothing items, manes, accessories, extra fur, less fur, but NO wings.

Behavior:
-If plates on their backs get cracked or split open, or they lose the covering for their face, the Smoke Dog is likely to die within a few days, once all the smoke drains from his/her body.
-They can usually find or repair their face covering if needed, but if the Smoke Dog has large holes in it's back plates, it's unlikely to survive, unless it stays in one place, and presses it's wounds up against something while they heal.
-They don't usually like groups of their own species, but occasionally one will have the company of a few others.
-Adult Smoke Dogs can control their smoke, to a point. They can direct it in different directions, make a lasting trail for others to follow, or use it to cloak themselves for a short time. Adolescents usually have more difficulty controlling their smoke, but they become better with age.
-The more smoke that a Smoke Dog uses, the more fatigued it will be, and the time to recover is longer.

Insides:
-Smoke Dogs only have a heart and lungs in their gut.
-They don't have the need to eat or drink, because they draw their energy from smoke in their surroundings, usually through their mouth.
-In the place of the rest of their organs, there is a large 'smoke sack', which obviously stores their smoke, and allows it to travel to different parts of their bodies [ie. the holes on their back, mouth, etc.].
-The smoke sack sits right behind the lungs and extends to just past the ribs, which keeps most of it protected.
-If the smoke sack is punctured, and the wound is not covered up, the Smoke Dog would die in as short as an hour.
-Smoke Dogs have blood, and just like any other animal, can die from blood loss or bodily trauma.
