This doesn't really happen in the actual Pokemon battles, but if trainers named their Pokemon something other than the actual Pokemon name, it'd be funny if some trainer decides to troll and name their Pokemon as another Pokemon.
I think I had a Dialga named Magikarp once...

And that trolled another guy who was, actually, expecting a Trapinch...
Since then, on that group was prohibited putting pokΓ©mon names as nicknames to another pokemon due the confusion...

I thought this was going to be about some of the stupid names newbies give their 'Mons (I'm guilty of this too, IE Worm Hide for a Caterpie that eventually evolved into a Butterfree.)
Anyways. Doesn't quite work in Set battle mode, which I believe Battle Frontier and Netbattles fall under.

LOL, my friend was battling my brother, she has a lv.100 Arceus she named Magikarp, so he was like, "SHTUPID YOU. A SHTUPID MAGIKARP IS NO MATCH FOR MY LV. 87 EMBOAR!" So then she sent out her Arceus and he was like "SHTUPPPPPIDDDDDDD MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" He lost that match. I still giggle at the memory XD
