Fan art of She-Ra and Swift Wind I started many years ago (2011) but only got to the sketch/scribble idea stage. I decided to look at what I had unfinished and see if I could draw it to a high-quality, realistic feel.

The artwork was drawn in Photoshop and Illustrator, and I wanted to capture the original Filmation / Mattel version of She-Ra before the Netflix reboot.

The illustration was drawn in 3 parts - She Ra- In the foreground, SwiftWind behind her, and the Explosion background to bring it together. I wanted to make a comic book front version, which includes the iconic She-Ra graphic so that the illustration can be easily cropped.

I use my preferred method of blocking in, adding details, textures and light reflection effects. I used some reference material to help with the expressions and posing of the character. I also looked at a lot of horse reference material for the pose of Swift Wind.

It took around 50 hours from start to finish, and I enjoyed drawing this illustration the most using my 32" Wacom Cintiq Pro connected to my Macbook Pro.
