I've heard alot about that Pistol+AR tactic. Its the equivilant of Counter-Strike's AWM one shot kill rifle. A dirty, cheap tatic.

then when youve finally killed him, out of nowhere some jerk kills you

my friend is a beast about using plasma pistol + battle rifle.
he'll shoot you with a full charge of the plasma, then switch really quick and shoot you in the head.
(my fave is beam sword and shotgun)
