Someone had asked if Hyden's servants pillaged his manor after he froze himself. That’s an interesting question and one I have quite a few thoughts about.Hyden committed the dark-power-unleashing crime that officially put him on his entire kingdom’s shit list while he was away from home, traveling in a remote location on what was supposedly official royal business. Because of this, the king got word of what had happened long before anyone else, including Hyden’s own house staff. I imagine that his servants were minding their own business, tending the duke’s manor while he was away and enjoying some peace and quiet, when they heard a knock at the door and unexpectedly opened it to dozens of royal soldiers. The Hyden manor was suddenly to be treated as a crime scene, and the house staff was shooed out and sent home before any pilfering could occur.
That’s not to say that they didn’t pilfer plenty while he was still around, though. On one hand, Hyden had a notorious temper and was not somebody you wanted to cross. On the other hand, in his later years he was rarely sober or attentive enough to notice or care when things disappeared–despite living in a giant, ridiculously lavish manor, I imagine he spent nearly all his time alone in his study or bedroom and rarely even entered most of the other rooms. Due to this combined with the very high staff turnover rate, it was common for disgruntled servants to steal a few little things on their way out, knowing that they would be long gone by the time he figured out anything had gone missing.
