One of the first animes I ever saw as a kid were the 90's DIC dub of Sailor Moon. I remember it was one of the few shows that my mom didn't want me and my sister watching. I guess she was (mis)informed that SM was an 'evil kids show' or something (though maybe she was also concerned with some of the creepier-looking villains that the Sailor Scouts fought? I remember one of the baddies featured in the intro looking a bit scary).But when something was forbidden to us, did that ever stop us from watching it? So whenever it was just me and my sister watching TV by ourselves, we would sneak in watching Sailor Moon. And yes, I do remember the days when the show had to cover up two of the scouts being lesbians by making them "cousins". Sailor Says DON'T CATCH THE GAY!!!!
It's been a while since I've seen the show, though I do dig the crazy expressions and 90's anime aesthetic. What a gold mine! I've seen clips of the newer English dub, but a part of me wishes they re-released the old cheeseball dub that made Luna sound like a British nanny. Sure, it wouldn't be the complete experience, but it was the introduction to SM for a lot of kids. Maybe one day....
