Description

This is my entry to the THU Golden Ticket Challenge 2019. The topic was "a desirable future" with an emphasis on our inner child.
In the desirable future I am picturing, society has transitioned entirely to renewable energies and changed its society values in order to stop climate change.
Endless growth, competition and hyperconsumerism were replaced by a society that thinks and acts cooperatively on a global scale.

My illustration takes place in a self-sustaining city/building complex in that world.
As the briefing mentions the inner child, I wanted to make a fantastical addition.
I have decided to build my core idea around enhanced plants that have the abilitiy to generate electricty from solar energy.

This scene is an homage to a scene from Karate Kid, where Mr. Miyagi teaches Daniel about Bonsai Trees.
In the case of this world it's a lesson in how to take care of the Solar Trees and make them grow and flourish and finally produce energy from the sun.

The point I want to stress is not that we found an „easy solution“ to save our climate, but rather find a visual way to communicate humanity taking care of nature and living in symbiosis with it.
