Haha, there is an heresy or a deviation here. An HDR journalistic photo. Thanks a lot Richard.

Y not. HDR is here to stay. Its not the means of how we get to the goal line...its the scoring of the point which matters most

I LOVE the work on the image!! Ok this type of photo is SO unflattering as it makes all the flaws really exagerated but it's a great shot

it doesnt make the flaws exagerated , it makes the details very sharp, that's the whole point of hdr-type photos, its great!

Yes so very sharp details = flaws magnified. this type of photo is stunning but requires a LOT more retouching

there aren't any flaws in the content of a photo....
what do u mean by flaws? dirt? garbage? u cant be serious....
if u see a photo of a dirty house full of dust and stains , its an image full of flaws?? :S

maarkb In reply to Nom1 [2010-09-09 01:40:57 +0000 UTC]
no I mean skin flaws. you know if you make a portrait in this HDR like style, all the flaws will be intensified! That's what I mean... come on -_- I am so hard to understand??

Nom1 In reply to maarkb [2010-09-09 12:08:07 +0000 UTC]
you are not hard to undestand, its just that it doesnt make any sense what u say
Stop sticking to fashion portraits people
there is a whole subdivision of photography dedicated to shooting old people and bringing out their wrinkles and "skin flaws" as you say
what i'm trying to say is that this is not a bad thing,Am i so hard to understand??

@maarkb you can't just come on here and say "Oh look at all these flaws" just because it's not up to your taste or standards doesnt mean it's wrong this was very well done, and obviously if you really DID understand portrait photography or even the most basic of skills in that area, you would understand that everyone is creative in thier own way and to bringing this sense of reality to the viewer is an essential skill set, if it were for a Fashion magazine i can understand or actually no, because all art is great in any form.
So stop being a high-nosed jerk, and just accept and appreciate the work other's do.

1. Nothing about ~maarkb tastes can be taken from their statements other than the fact that this photograph is one that they love.
2. ~maarkb in no way seemed to be saying that the photographer was wrong as you seem to suggest, or that the work wasn't well done.
3. ~maarkb made no statements on their beliefs on the amount of creativity other people have, who has how much, or really anything at all about creativity as you suggest.
4. ~maarkb never made statements about the skill set of HDR photography or its importance to any part of existence.

I think they were just trying to say that things that are considered flaws in mainstream appearance are shown more clearly with exaggerated clarity, like wrinkles, scars, dirt, dust, pimples, etc. The clarity in this HDR is exaggerated as many of the details would not be seen this way to the naked eye(without examining at different depths ), so you can't say they aren't exaggerated. Yes, this is what a lot of HDR is. Yet they are into seeing those characteristics that are normally removed or shot in a way to minimize. They said they love the work and that they think it was stunning. I don't think the person was attempting to say the photographer made flaws, or that it wasn't up to any set of standards the person held. I know lots of people who wouldn't let me take a photograph of them in this way, because they would tell me that it 'shows all of their flaws' so this idea of flaws is an idea of what people want themselves to typically look like (a general idea of it) and not necessarily a comment on the photographer or even the subject. I think you've put a lot of ideas and words into their mouth with your statements based on assumptions based on the fact that they simply said the word 'flaws' and 'exaggerated'. You've taken things out of context. Everything they said seems to make sense. You are the one that seems kind of rude. Let's just be patient and try to talk to the person about what their trying to say rather than call them names, assume about their character, while arguing for appreciation...
