Description The Type 1 Uniform, also known as the Navy Officer Uniform (NOU), is the standard and ubiquitous outfit used by virtually all ships in the UNSC Navy no matter if the assignment is on a starship or sea-going craft. Officially, the NOU is to be used by all vessels, though the commanding officers may allow Type 2 Uniforms, to be used in its stead. All on-duty personnel in military bases are to wear the Type 1.

The Type 1 Uniform's design is ancient, believed to first be used in the 26th Century, though its exact date of adoption has been in debate due to conflicting records. However, it has been used up to the current day in the 33rd Century. Originally, the uniform had a black undershirt, however, a major redesigning came into place in the 28th Century, which changed the NOU to have a blue undershirt to easier differentiate between services as Marine Corps officers also wear a similar chest-pad.

A secondary type of Type 1 Uniform is the Navy Working Uniform. For all intents and purposes, it is identical to the NOU. The only difference is that the NWU has cargo pants and is typically used by enlisted personnel, with the exception of department head officers that are in high work intensity environments.

A Nickname for those that wear the Type 1 NOU has come up over the years - Pressies - given for the fact that the NOU features pressed officer's slacks versus the usually cotton cargoes used by the enlisted NWU wearers. In addition to cargoes, the NWU features boots, making it a cross between the Type 2 and Type 1 in terms of practicality.

The ship cap is extra and can be changed between uniforms. However, a Captain may sport either a peaked cap or ship's cap, both of which inscribed with the traditional 'scrambled eggs' of the Commanding Officer.

While the Type 2 Uniform uses sleeve detail to show the employment sector of a sailor, the Type 1 uses details on the shoulder pad above the rank insignia. For instance, Lieutenant Lao, show above, is part of his ship's command staff, represented by the color red. The only unique member of the crew is the Captain, who has a special golden detail.
