Description
Whereas Venus (Aphrodite) was born from a seashell pushed ashore by the gentle sea and the God of the gentle wind Zephyr, Adonis was the fruit of a human woman named Myrrha who was turned into a tree by a jealous Aphrodite for receiving the affection of a great and powerful King. In this depiction, I show Adonis, fully formed, bursting free from the wooden womb of his cursed mother. My own take on the myth, not 100% accurate, but hey, Artist's license right?
