Description I was required to make a platform game for a University project, and this is what i came up with. I want to point out that before i embarked on making this; my knowledge of coding in flash was limited to just making buttons (yep, 'The Nightmare' is made of nothing but buttons. I'm super serial..).

Capn Banjaxed is (or is supposed to be) a story about a Pirate who is shipwrecked on an island after being tied to the helm of his ship by his mutinous crew. He finds himself on an island which he realizes is inhabited with treasure (as well as the ghosts of past treasure-hungry pirates). He decides that he will stubbornly attempt to acquire all the booty on the island before attempting to fix his ship.

I have worked on this bloody thing painstakingly for the 4 months, and honestly, i am unsure how i feel about the outcome. There is so so SO much more i wanted to do with this, but i simply didn't have the time before my deadline was due. Sadly, I won't be able to work on this any further after the aforementioned deadline, as the rest of my uni projects are leaving me virtually no time to do ANYTHING else.. Perhaps over the summer i will make 'Capn Banjaxed 2' with a less crappy engine and sprites that aren't laughably bad..

Also, I just want to say that i have found a new appreciation for all of you Pixel folks.. - I had no idea how much time and effort goes into making the simplest of pixel imagery. Some of you guys have got crazy-talent. Here's to the Pixel Artists!
Oh, and i also want to thank Zubaja for copious amounts of assistance with my coding. Dude is a legend

Edit: Version 2.0 - After much feedback (thank you!) it was obvious that the first two enemies were extremely difficult to avoid, and as a result; people were giving-up very early on in the game. So I've decided to remove them so that you can get a little further before giving up (Pfft, Ye call Ye-self Pirates?!). I have also significantly decreased the size of the hit-boxes around the enemies, so there is a little more jumping room. I just want to point out that the game is designed to be difficult, you need to time your double-jumps meticulously in order to avoid the ghosts, y'dig?

the movement is nice and fluid and pretty fun, but the height of the player relative to level led to death by hitting my head on the platform above. I also Β liked the ghost pirates, they looked pretty sweet. Cool game

aw man, what i can see of this makes it super neat, but my laggy laptop makes it more or less unplayable. it likes not counting button presses at random (seemed like every third jump or double-jump failed...)

I never saw what was so hard, except that the friction, or lack thereof, was kind of annoying; The first ghost took a simple double-jump, irregardless of where on the platform he was, and I was safe.
Maaaybe select a difficulty at the start of the game that lets you pick how many enemies spawn and where?
Just make a simple array that starts with all the monsters belonging to 'easy' (say, 5), then following the enemies for 'medium' (say, an extra 3), 'hard' (4 more?) and possibly even 'insane' (3 more?) with an unlockable difficulty called 'Dat booty!' with ghosts following you around and.. no, that requires a pathfinding algo

When i say background i mean platforms, when you double jump into the first platforms sides you can actually stick into the platforms side sometimes. It happened to me when i started using flash and i never figured out how to fix it. So the torch has been passed to you my friend *passes torch*

Yeah, i have no idea how to fix that unfortunately. It's just the strange way that this type of 'game engine' handles collisions. Sadly, I don't think i'll be able to fix this without having to actually re-write the entire code of the game :c

While i'm impressed at your dedication and your skill, I am afraid I do not enjoy games which do not allow for either restore points or health depletion. I don't like that one touch on the spikes will send me back to the beginning. It makes the game less fun when you cannot build on the challenges you've faced and completed.Β 

Do keep working on this project! I'm excited to see what you can do with more time and attention to the game.

Oh My Gosh...I had to quit....He kept SLIDING when he landed and I kept getting those spicks....I lost how many times I got brought back to the beginning already....
I give your gave two thumbs up. It's really hard NOT to play without laughing or rage-ful towards the sliding pirate.
