Description
Univisión (Spanish pronunciation: [uniβiˈsjo̞n] ) is an American Spanish language broadcast television network that is owned by Univision Communications . The network's programming is aimed at Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States; its programming includes telenovelas and other drama series, sports , sitcoms , reality andvariety series, news programming, and imported Spanish-language feature films . It has one of the largest audience of Spanish-language television viewers in the world, according to Nielsen Media Research .
Univisión is headquartered in New York City ,[1] and has its major studios, production facilities, and operations in the Miami suburb of Doral , Florida . In recent years, the network has reached viewership parity with the U.S.'s five major English language television networks; it often places a strong fifth, outranking The CW , with some fourth-place weekly placings, and as of 2012, even first place rankings for individual programs over all five English networks due to the network's consistent schedule of new telenovelas all 52 weeks of the year.
Univision is available on cable and satellite television throughout most of the country, with local stations in over 50 markets with large Hispanic and Latino populations and a national cable network feed that is distributed in markets without either the availability or the demand for a locally-based station. Most of these stations air full local newscasts and other local programming in addition to network shows; in major markets such as Los Angeles, New York City and Miami, the local newscasts carried by the network's owned-and-operated stations are equally competitive with their English-language counterparts ratings-wise. Chief operating officer Randy Falco (who was appointed in the position on June 29, 2011) has been in charge of the company since the departure of Univision Communications president and CEO Joe Uva in April 2010.
Univision is now partnering with T-Mobile USA to offer Unlimited Plans With No Annual Contract as a Walmart Exclusive $30/Month Unlimited & Text
$45 Unlimited Talk,Text 4G Data & Music & $55/month Unlimited Talk,Text 4G Data,Music & Video which all plans includes Unlimited Messaging + 200
Countries and Destinations & 100 Minutes to Select Latin American Countries & Up to 2.5 GB's of 3G or 4G at great pricesThis partnership further reinforces our commitment to serve our audience in every way possible," said Kevin Conroy, president of digital and enterprise development at Univision.
As one of the country's fastest-growing populations, a majority of the nation's almost 56 million Hispanic Americans own a smartphone—more than 70 percent, according to Nielsen.
But that's not the statistic T-Mobile is looking forward to: Nielsen also said that 49 percent of Latinos plan to replace or upgrade their handset within the next six months. And who better to serve those folks' needs than the new Univision Mobile?
"Hispanic Americans are among the largest, most important and most influential groups in the U.S. today," T-Mobile chief marketing officer Mike Sievert said. "And they deserve wireless tailored to their interests and needs."
Neither company specified what those interests or needs are, but Sievert promised that Univision Mobile "is a completely unique wireless experience built to provide Hispanic Americans with both the content and mobile experience they crave from two brands they know and trust."
Starting next week, customers can visit exclusive national retailer Walmart to sign up for the $30 unlimited nationwide talk-and-text plan. Tack on an additional $15 per month for up to 2.5GB of high-speed 3G data, which slows to 2G speeds once the cap is reached.
And, if you want to hang on to your own device, but are itching for access to Univision Mobile, just pick up a new compatible SIM card. The companies' press release did not specify which phones Univision Mobile would offer, though accompanying images highlighted the Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Light (pictured).
All Univision Mobile plans include unlimited international texting from the U.S. to select Latin American countries and 200+ destinations around the globe, as well as 100 minutes to mobile or landline numbers in eight Latin American countries.
As an added perk, users can also check out sneak peeks of new Univision programs, and enjoy behind-the-scenes videos from Univision events and TV/radio personalities.
The announcement comes about a year after Verizon teamed up with Jennifer Lopez for Viva Movil, a chain of Verizon stores targeted at Latino consumers.
The banner aboved popped up on the Univision Mobile website today. It proclaims that "Univision Mobile is Integrating into Ultra Mobile". The banner raises more questions than it answers but fortunately an anonymous source forwarded me a copy of a document that went out to Univision and Ultra dealers today.
The dealer document is quite long. You can see it in it's entirety here but to summarize it says that:
- Today, Univision Mobile notified its customers and dealers that on or around July 15, 2017, Univision customers will become Ultra Mobile customers.
- Nothing will change for Univision Mobile customers until around July 15.
- Univision customers will not need to change SIMs or payment methods when the transfer occurs.
Univision Mobile, which launched as a T-Mobile MVNO in 2014 was originally operated by T-Mobile for Univision. In February, 2016 Ultra Mobile , an independent T-Mobile MVNO, acquired Univision Mobile from T-Mobile.
Since the acquisition, Ultra Mobile has gradually modified Univision plans to have the same prices and very similar features as Ultra Mobile plans. About the only difference between current Univision and Ultra Mobile plans is that the included countries for free international calling are different. The free calling countries for Univision are all Spanish or Portuguese speaking countries. Ultra Mobile offers free calling to more countries, including all the ones that are free to call on Univision Mobile. It looks like Univision Mobile customers will get everything they currently have and more on Ultra Mobile.
To give you an idea how the migration will affect Univision Mobile customers, here's a list of current Univision Mobile's current plans overlaid on equivalently priced Ultra Mobile plans. Where the plans differ, the Univision value is in strikeout and the Ultra Mobile one in bold. Keep in mind that this is just my guess as to how the migration will work. Ultra Mobile has not said exactly which Ultra plans Univision customers will be migrated to.

Cool I never even knew Univision had a history as being the first Spanish channel in the US which is pretty interesting having their first logo designed that looks like the Televisa logo in their early years with their current name in the late 80s I've always loved the Univision logo
