Once again, the Pendleton military base was surrounded with white fluff of snow but this time around, it wasn't going away straight away. It decided to stick to the ground as it gave the soldiers a white Christmas this time. A few soldiers had snuck into a room where the decorations, a tree, and a few lights were stocked away throughout the year. Many were hung up last year but not much. Xiaolian had taken charge of where the decorations and the tree should be located at. It was in the main building where most people would come in and out of, going to different and so it was a good place to put it there so everyone can see. Xiaolian had everyone on board with the decorating.

... and everybody was there. Well, one person was missing.

The decorating had taken more of their free time up due to some joking around with some of the other soldiers. Now, the main hall had bright decorations. Xiaolian had ordered everyone to take a break so they can continue up later. She had decided to, along with Ying, go towards the library so they can continue their lessons on Xingese. Since she was only half, she just knew quite a bit of swear and insult words which did came in handy sometimes. On their way towards the library, the black-haired alchemist hummed quietly. She did like the quietness that came between them. As soon as they reached the library, the two grabbed some books on Xingese history as well as some of its language. They found their quiet place in the back like normal. Xiaolian had quite the stack of books and both pulled out the first book that was on the stack towards Ying.

So they began their official study session of the break they were in.

    (-)

About an hour and a half, Ying was half surprised that she memorized half the words that he gave her about a week ago to try and memorize them. Ying was also surprised she had memorized a few new ones herself. He smiled at her attempts of some more difficult ones he gave her to try out a few seconds ago but since she was still learning, he'd let it go. Ying had glanced at the clock, realizing that it was close to five thirty, and closed the book they were reading out of. Xiaolian blinked upon seeing him close up the book.

"What is it?" Xioalian inquired when she seen the Corporal close the book unexpectedly. She glanced towards the clock that was hanging up on the wall.

    5:00 P.M. Friday, December 23rd.

"It's five o'clock on Friday," he reminded her. Two days before Christmas; did she really want to spend time in the library two days before Christmas? To him, he sure wouldn't. "You should go spend time with friends."

The alchemist turned to look at him with a frown. "I'm fine actually," she said with a now turned smile. "Lukas is hosting a Christmas Eve party at the local bar tomorrow night and everyone's invited. Are you coming?"

When everybody says the word 'Lukas' or anything fun, he tends to avoid because he doesn't want to be a part of unnecessary drama that may or may not occur. Ying decides that he would stay here and would probably be sleeping away. He shakes his head with a small sigh and he stands up to collect the books they were using to put them away. "Probably not," he answers, holding the stack of books in his arms. He then set the books down to grab the small, paper bag that was on the floor he had forgotten. He grabs it and hands it to Xioalian. Xiaolian is confused at first by the small present. It's nothing majorly big it looks like and it even has a ribbon taped to the handles with her favorite color.

Xiaolian unties the handles, ultimately deciding to keep the small ribbon for which it might come in handy for later. She pulls the handles apart, stopping slightly to send him a glare. "It's not something dangerous... not like a bomb?" She questions.

Ying's eyes widen slightly. "Never... not in a million years..." he paused as he rubbed his head. "Just open it."

She sighed ultimately and stuck her hand in the bag. The first time she touched whatever was in there, it felt like a hard-back copy of something. She grabbed it and pulled it out. She gasped lightly, her face lighting up.

The cover read 'History of Xingese.' The history of Xingese always excited her because of her heritage behind it. She learned most of their history through books and other stuff from a library. Now, she would have one always with her. Xiaolian smiled brightly up to the Xingese man. "Thank you, Ying," she said softly, running her hands along the book. She realized she didn't get him anything for Christmas, present wise. "I didn't get you anything for Christmas though."

The Corproal shrugged lightly. "Don't worry about it," he muttered. He then grabbed the stack of books again. "Merry Christmas... Have a good weekend."

Xiaolian nodded and smiled. "You too Ying," she said softly as she too went to clean up the mess they made. "Merry Christmas, Ying."

I haven't commented on this yet. O:
HEYYY, thanks for including my kid! I find it hard to believe that Xiao Lian would attend anything with Lukas in it, but this sure was an interesting read. >)
I assume Ying knows her favourite colour from practicing Xingese? That's a cute detail~
