Description May the Fourth came a bit sooner than I realized despite everyone telling me about it. I wanted to do something to celebrate but I ended up busier than I hoped. My original plan was to celebrate Spongebob's anniversary by doing a crossover poster. And I while I was planning it out, I could have sworn there was an event about designing your own lightsaber so that became my New Hope. Not sure if it's still active or not but even though it's a bit of a rough mock up, I'm content with how it ended up coming out!

I was going to do a series of sci-fi characters wielding their own themed lightsabers but couldn't really think of any other space swords or saber-shaped objects. I'm sure I could be a bit more creative with it if I had more time but I was going to start with the Doctor and his Sonic Screwdriver either way. I know there's a new Doctor out already and new episodes are dropping soon but that new Sonic Screwdriver is personally not to my liking and even if I wanted to use it, it's not saber-shaped so that would just defeat the purpose. Instead I went back an incarnation and used the 14th Doctor's Sonic which is one of my favorites since it's a mix of all the modern ones. And naturally there's a Jedi Tennant to follow.

Next, to honor my original idea, I brought in Spongebob as Luke; thought the pilot uniform would be different from the robes. His bubble wand was my main focus for the saber- even the pose being a reference to "And now with two hands!", but once I started with the mock up- I needed it to be a bit more technical to match with the components. So naturally I thought, this looks like a job for Ol' Reliable, his jelly fishing net. Lightsaber blades don't usually have unique shapes so rather than a net, I decided to make the blade out of bubbles instead of light. I guess it's more of a bubble saber than anything. I mean if we're underwater, how can there be-

And lastly, McFly! One of my favorite sci-fi heroes despite coming from a time travel flick instead of a space one. But I figured it'd be good for variety and I can design a sick time machine saber. I'll admit it started off based on his guitar of all things- even the blade taking on the appearance of the head and pegs with the emitter and main hilt resembling the neck and fretboard. The pommel cap is also the butt of the guitar. Meanwhile, the controls are based on Mr. Fusion because it has that lightsaber design and actual buttons on it. With a Flux Capticator running the crystals in the cap. I was less focused on the structure on this one but if I had to redesign this down the line- definitely more DeLorean based. Another idea is to have it based around several eras from the film but it's a lightsaber, if I get carried away I'll end up designing a Keyblade.

Anyways, sorry for the late post and long description but all-in-all, Happy May the 4th!
