Description
And If I HaverBy: Charles Phillips
I can see her from across the room
the light making her even more brilliant
and beautiful at the same time
I take a quick glance
and then away
hoping both that she noticed
and didn’t
courage that’s what I need
but courage is hard to mustier
I glance again
just to see the light hit your smile
my heart skips a beat
or two
your dress is truly beautiful
the light blue
making your light brown hair
and hazel eyes shine like the stars
I know you love
I step off the wall to ask you to dance
but my feet don’t listen when I tell them too move
so I just stand there like a fool
then I lean against the wall again
then I glance up again
and see our eyes meet
and all the courage of Arthur
or Lancelot fills my mind
and heart
each step feels like a lifetime
and all I hope is the moment hasn’t passed
I finally get to you
and with a bow
and old world flair I ask you to dance
Before you can answer I turn expecting rejection
then I hear you say yes
I turn to see your friends giving me the evil eye
I know it’s purely jealousy
plain
and simple
we walk to the middle of the dance floor
you apologize for not being able to dance
I tell you it’s ok I will take the lead
you giggle at me
I suspect you know that I too don’t know what I’m doing
I put my hands on your waist
your arms around my neck
we start dancing
more like spinning in really slow circles
as we keep going you keep getting closer
until your head is resting on my neck
I start singing the song lyrics under my breathe without realizing it
I feel your smile grow as we dance
and I know I’ll always have the courage for you
