Breathlessly Stealing An Angels Time

“I’ve done it again, haven’t I?”
I ask you out loud as you walk away
the clack of your heels
haunts the sidewalks of the cities
I ask you again
“I’ve done it again, haven’t I?”

You turn to me
and you just shot me that look
that look that lets me know I’m in trouble
the same look that lets me know
that you’re not going to tell me
my mistake

“You still leave me wondering”
I say to you
in hopes that it will in some way redeem me
I know it won’t
and you’ll continue to be mad until I can figure it out

I keep going crazy trying to figure it out
the random things it could have been
I know it’s not an important date
those are the 10th of June,
February 21st,
and this coming Saturday the 26th

I finally catch up to you again
how you move so fast in heels I’ll never understand
especially in the cold of night
no matter how hard I chased
or how many times I ask
you just keep giving me that look

That look that would bring a weak man to his knees
or a strange man to tears
this is the most common thing I get from you
no matter how many times
I deserve it
I know I deserved it everytime

No matter what I still get lost in those eyes
especially when you yell at me
and even more when you’re disappointed
I can’t explain
and I won’t even try to start

You finally just stop in your tracks
stop giving me the death glare
you open your mouth
I prepare myself to hear the words
I’ve dreaded hearing along
but you look at me and say
“It’s cold and the coffee is good,
would you like to come up for a cup.
I have some time
and I’d like to explain what you did wrong
it’s not you it’s us
now with that said I need an answer.
Because these heels hurt
and this rain makes my hair unmanageable.”

With those words you give me a smile
I simply reply
“Yes I would love to.”
You already knew what my answer would be
I see your smile again when you shot it at me
with any look you let me know how lucky I can be
