The Badger and the Tiny Deer

“What’s your problem!”
She yells at
She’s always frustrated about something
“I’m toxic,
I’m poison,
I’m not comfortable in my own skin.”
She says in the verge of tears
“Why can’t you let this go?
Why can’t you let me go?”
She asks not actually ready for an answer

“I’m ruined for anyone but you.”
I reply
before she can ask anything else
“from the first smile I saw.
From the first time I heard you laughed.
Even from the first time I saw that unsure twinkle in your eye.”
I look her straight in the face
“You ruined me.
It’s not your fault,
I don’t blame you at all.”
I let out a light chuckle
“I did it to myself,
I got spoiled
And I’ll tell you what I’m glad I did.”
I look around for a comical exit to try to cut the tense.
All I can find is a exit I don’t want to take.

“Well stop it!
I don’t want to ruin anyone.
I don’t want to be the reason someone’s life stands still!”
She exclaims
“No one is suppose to feel like this for me.
No one is suppose see me like you do.
An image I will never be able to achieve.
Put on a pedestal like a trophy.
I’m not a trophy to be put on display.”
She says to be with some anger in faintly tainting each word.

“I’m not waiting on anyone.
My life didn’t really start till I met you.
My life didn’t really start till I kissed you.
Till I saw your smile when the road is open
and we have no direction.
Not until I held your hand
And i could feel my heartbeat for the first time.”
I say to her annoyed
“Look, im going to before I do something stupid.
Just remember all you have to do is say when.
Then I’ll be there to answer your request.
When you want me to leave you alone forever,
I will.
When you want me to hold you close.
Just to let you know everything’s okay,
I will.
When you finally decide it’s time to run away together,
I will.”
I say as I turn the knob looking back at you hoping you’ll stop me.
Stop me from walking out that door because I don’t to want go.
“All you have to do is say when.”
I close the door
And drive home.
