Things Left For You

We had been dating 2 weeks
We watched Lucid Lions before The Concept took the stage
You leaned your head against my shoulder
and I could see a twinkle in your eyes
We held hands tightly for the first time
We left before the last band you had a headache,
but not before we told the band how awesome they were
On the way home you made a comment about that would be a perfect wedding song
To which I quickly replied that would be a awesome first dance song
You said only if they performed live,
I agreed completely.....

That's all I can think when I hear it
I use to imagine what would look like
your beauty wrapped in a wedding dress something that was picked out just for you
me in a suit picked just for me
lets face it I'm not wearing a tux
hand held tightly again
start with simply movements
and then try to get more advanced
but you can't really the dress keeps making it look like you're going to fall over
the look on our parents faces
your parents wondering why you picked this asshole over the others
mine seeing how happy I finally am for the first time
smiling ear to ear
and mesmerized by your beauty
trying to keep a mental image
so that years down the line when the kids are driving us nuts
and the bills put a strain on us
I can always go back to the image of you
you in your dress
and your hair that took an hour to do but thirty minutes to mess up

I like to imagine the speed of your heartbeat
trying to match mine both fighting for dominances
but neither winning so they decide to follow the same rhythm
my hands around your waist
yours around the back of my neck
knowing that this moment will be burned in our minds forever
knowing that one day we'll look back
and tell the kids,
to which they'll probably say gross

being there in that moment in my mind use to keep me calm
and hopeful
Now all I see when I close my eyes are things that could never be
To life that only exists in your dreamscapes dreamscapes
when everything worked out right
and we didn't have an expiration date
we thought we could last forever
didn't know what was around the bend
when we knew we were in the wrong place rushing the timeframe
much like we said we didn't want to do
some my fault
some the fault of you

in the end of it all we will always have that song to quickly remind us of the things that only exist in dreamscapes
