Description
Hello DA Family!Open this one up to see full version, WELL WORTH IT!!!
I am glad to post something new as I have been busy working on a Non-Disclosed Project hopefully soon to be completed and released. BTW, Palladium Open House was a wonderful success and a nice opportunity to debut some of the work in progress. I was also able to showcase some of the Commission art that I am finishing up. One of them is the Galactus-Kid aka on DA as “Fucuchama.” He has a Dreadguard named Fallon O’Connor and her personalized Host Armor named Brutus.
I would love to describe them for you but I think his own words best do the job so I will quote them here:
“I can't tell you how stoked I am about Brutus. I was trying to explain what he was to my friend on the on the phone the other day, and all I could say was "well, he's like a mix between a bulldog, a rhino, a gorilla, covered in spikes, horns, and mammoth tusks that like to ram, headbutt, and hit things...actually, just wait until chuck sends the picture, then you'll see."
”Brutus, her host armor, is a hulking beast that loves to be in the thick of combat. He has many physical enhancements, most of which are spikes and tusks and melee weapons. He has a reinforced head crest with large spikes in a single row (like a rhino, but nine horns instead of two) with large horns near the front of the row, and smaller ones the farther back you go. He is carnivorous and has large razor sharp teeth and a wickedly curved and spiked tusk on either side of his face. He has horned defense which has him covered in spikes, and a spiked weapon tail which he uses when he’s in the thick of combat. His shoulders have organic rockets mixed in with the spikes, and he has a bone tentacle harpoon which appears as a large barbed spike protruding from his right forearm. His forearms and wrists are reinforced bony plates, spikes, and claws over the thick bony hands. These large, oversized plates give him kind of a “
I had a blast and a good work out working on this illustration as I was able to tests some techniques, identify various ways to illustrate biotechnology other than the more popular established aesthetics and yet also preserve functional morphology. I always try to implement a “function begets form” approach for a more believable and operational outcome. I can easily say that Dreadguard O’Connor and her Behemoth beast of a HA gave the Machina a very hard time in the game played at the Open House. Truly a wonderful creation and composition concocted by Fucuchama. This is just another great example of what the Role Playing Game of SPLICERS can reveal.
NOW again I say, imagine Several of these various types of Host Armors amidst an armor of bio-augmented soldiers called Biotics & Roughnecks as well as tank sized biotechnology War beasts called “Warmounts” battling it out against one another or the deadly cold & calculating Machines and you have a taste of some good ole Splicers.
As to work time imputed, I lost count of the hours as I worked off & on, striving to get many jobs complete at once, still cranking on others, but I can say this one was well worth the time invested and is one that I am truly proud of. If I had to guess, I would say …Naw… I rather not… lol
The size of the original illustration is 14” X 17” on a Strathmore sheet of 100 lb. (260 g/m) acid free, heavy weight with a smooth surface. Great for holding mechanical drawings and pencil, though I had a ton of clean up areas.
I used Several Zebra M-301with .5 lead along with a Pentel Clic Eraser for texture assist. Can’t rely totally on digital assist when it’s a commission piece and the hire is purchasing original art. So its always good to have the old school skills sharpened as well as the New School.
Cheers and I always welcome your comments!

Well, I must say your work is very inspiring as well & thank you for the compliments. I am focusing on values and light sourcing to make sure that they work above and beyond the details. I love your avatar & Deviant ID BTW! The avatar lycanthropic transformation hits home with me and my core project, Dominant Species! We definitely need to talk about a collab!

Sorry for the delay, trying to get my plate clean with the current workload. By all means light & shadow play a very important role and take a serious precedence over details any day in my book, I learned that lesson the hard way. Detailed the heck out of sections only to have the realistic shadows when the image went to the color stages, totally blowing over all that hard work and lost in the depths of shadow and proper light sources. Now strategic planning plays a key role in my current work to avoid that mistake EVER again.
I have heard of Wolf's rain and seen bits of it, but never knew that is what it was when I was watching it, XD. I would like to inquire about several opportunities if I may including a logo for my Werewolf story,so please let me know what your schedule is looking like & keep pumping out those awesome masterpieces.

Great to see this completed! As my wife (sylverwolffe) mentioned, we saw this at the Paladium Open House in it's infant stages. I bought the Splicers book because of your art, and have found it to be a very interesting game! All the best!

Hey there! My hubby & I met you at the recent Paladium Open House & saw this one in progress. It looks even more fantastic completed!
Seeing your art for the Splicers book/s was actually the first time I'd learned of the game and I have to say that your art takes a decent concept and really helps the imagination flesh it out. Very cool, well done! It's awesome to see some of the things possible in that game. Speaking of imagination, I'm incredibly impressed by how original your art is. Your "function begets form" approach lends your images a truly realistic feel, regardless of how alien or bizarre their content may be.
In this one, I particularly like how Fallon's soft nakedness contrasts so strikingly against the armor... Makes her seem weak in comparison; though I gather that she controls the host armor...? Or is it more of a symbiotic relationship?

Well, thank You so much Silverwolffe & Skeletom!
I am honored to hear your reply from the POH! So glad you enjoyed the Open House! I am happy you were bale to be introduced to the Splicers RPG! Carmen Bellaire & Kevin Siembieda created a fantastic game & I really have taken a strong liking to the game as it allows me to really showcase my long time interest in zoology and combative kinetics as well as my enjoyment of role playing games. The game really requires you to be innovative and use your wit and there is no bailout with the uses of magic or psionics, so it keeps you on your P’s & Q’s. I am humbled by your understanding of my aesthetic approach in designing things via ‘Function begets form,” as I have seen many designs that “look cool” but lack believable functionality to perform what they are trying to suggest. I am glad you were able to see the work-in-progress and the finished results to see just how much can be imputed into the work. And as to your question regarding Fallon’s control and link with Brutus you are actually correct on both statements.
If you check out the Splicers Sourcebook on Pg 70 You can see how it all gels together, smile. For those who haven’t read it or are interested I will summarize it so that you can see just how intriguing Host Armor is in the Splicers game.
Host Armor is a suit of living, but non-sentient –Body armor that works like high tech power armor suits. They are designed so that the individual user can have their suit molded to reflect their specific combat needs and desires as well as reflect aspects of their personalities. Host Armor (HA) have absolutely no brain (although they do have instinct driven reflexes to help in target acquisition) nor any willpower to act on its own. Without a pilot to operate it, Host Armor just sits as a pile of biotechnology waiting to be donned.
The pilot suits up by stripping naked and sliding into the Host armor by stepping through an opening in the Host Armor’s back. The pilot’s arms, legs and head are slid into place like putting on a glove. Once inside the armor, The Host Armor seals the back opening and the living armor and pilot become as one, as if wearing a second skin that can endure mega damage and composed of an array of Bio-weapons and enhanced attributes. The Host Armor secrets a neuralytic jelly internally that creates a direct neural interface between human and the HA. Control of the HA is established and preserved by neural connections made via the pilot’s bareskin in contact with the Neurolytic jelly and tin tendrils that attach to the pilot’s temples. The neural connections turn the impulses of the pilot’s nervous system into commands that cause the HA to respond with the same natural speed and smoothness of the pilot’s own muscle & reflex capacity. In fact, the HA and pilot share all of the physical stimulations, sensations and even pain, making for a true symbiotic union. The HA acts as if it is an extension of the pilot’s body. The slightest movement, nervous twitch, every physical action of the pilot is instantaneously transmitted and felt by the HA. Every thought instantly executed, including engaging sensors, using special enhancements and firing weapons. The fact that you can customize one to your own specifications via morphology, abilities, weapons and even metabolism is just awesome!
I could go on about these bad boys, but hey I simply suggest ppl go and buy the game! Its awesome and I am glad to be working on the next book for it!
Thanx a million for the comment & support Skeletom & Silverwolffe!!
