Description
One thing I haven't did in YEARS: a technical drawing. Before I learned how to draw people, the most common subject of my childhood drawings were ships, mostly due to watching Titanic time after time. I liked ships so very much and liked to know the histories of the great battleships and battles. With the building of my AU, this came to light again. I wanted to do my own design for the vessels I envisioned for the new Brazilian, German, Japanese and Russian navies. And as it is now with heraldry, I thought it would help if I drew my project on paper before I went for a vector version.
So, here's the first draft of the supercarrier SMS Richthofen, the new flagship of the Imperial German Navy.
Quite frankly, I almost gave up many times on this drawing, but who knows at least the ship's crest will be done, since I'm doing a lot of heraldic drawings (I just didn't published them yet).

Up to WW I Germany had not had any naval commanders of major status so I am thinking that the ships named for military men made sense then. Even in WW II only Tirpitz, Admiral Scheer and Admiral Graf Spee were named for naval people among 'capital ships' and Admiral Hipper went to the big heavy Cruiser.
Even the UK which DID have a whole lot of famed Admirals named battleships for Wellington [Iron Duke] and John Churchill [Marlborough] and for land battles [Ramillies and Agincourt] so naming a capital ship for Von Richthofen seems reasonable to me!
As for following British type design... again that fits with what the Imperial navy did before WW I and why not take what was [then] the best and try to exceed it?

SMS Hindenburg.
SMS Galland.
Enough said.
Despite the British influence in this design, this ship appears very German.
Did the Germans ever name their ships after Iron Cross winners?

Thank you for the comment
In this AU, the Imperial German Navy will name their ships mostly after successfull military leaders up to 1918 and proeminent Germans (Bismarck, admirals Von Spee and Von Tirpitz, etc), monarchs (both German and sometimes foreign as a diplomatic gesture) and the States of the Empire, like Bavaria and Prussia.

I can't believe this came from your imagination. Does your talent know no bounds?

"Does your talent know no bounds?"
My, I wouldn't say such a thing about me. This heavily based on references.

So much awesomeness.
A superb look at the carrier. And one of the best fictional ship designs I've seen on DA and elsewhere.
A few things: SAM batteries aren't really out on deck on modern carriers like you have them here. They're in vertical launch bays which are placed out of the way so that they can fit more aircraft on deck. Same goes for CIWS guns.
Also, the scale seems a bit off: looks like a QE class carrier, but that carries substantially fewer aircraft than the Ford class.
Don't get me wrong: I love what you've done here and I love where you're going. None of this is horrible; you've done a fine job. Thank you for doing it and thank you for sharing it with us!

Thanks so much! It's quite an honour to hear that, taking in account the fine pixel designs I take inspiration from.
About the positioning of the SAM batteries and CIWS guns, this shows that I need to go into further research until I can reach a "final" design for the Richthofen-class.
Yeah, another thing I should have noticed, because the aim is to carry as many aircraft as possible. Thanks so much for another very constructive comment and critique!

You're quite welcome.
Yeah, the way you have it make it look like the old Soviet idea of carriers. But who cares; it's a splendid first draft, and easily fixed.
I hope they were helpful.

O Brasil também terá sua vez. Pelos menos três porta-aviões: os almirantes Barroso, Cochrane e Tamandaré.

Would have been cool if the Graf Zeppelin was put into service.
Did you get any inspiration from the HMS Queen Elizabeth or the USS Gerald Ford?

Yeah, but (fortunately for us), Hitler wouldn't wait and let his staff do their jobs and build up a Navy strong enough to take on the British.
Exactly, and the USS Nimitz. The Richthofen-class was designed to surpass these inspirations in speed and number of aircrafts. SMS Richthofen's sister ship will be named Graf Zeppelin.

Would be nice to see all German aircraft flying from rather than American imports.

There will be no American imports on board the Richthofen and her sisters. The Imperial Navy aims to minimize the reliance on American technology. The most likely aircraft to be assigned is the Eurofighter or the Gripen.

I noticed that you included the SAAB Gripen. SAAB has produced quality aircraft.

It looks like the Gripen is the winner, then. I might draw one in German colours someday.

Thanks so much, but this is FAR AWAY from my vision. I envy those guys from sites like shipbucket who can mass produce ship drawings.
