How he lost his right arm was that during that time of the event, when he was doing some engineering work building the machines, his right hand was shot at the wrist by one of the Mann Co. soldiers, it comes off and it starts to bleed quickly. With a very quick mindset, he immediately tie a cloth around his arm near the elbow and it stopped bleeding. Then he took his detached robot hand he had built and attached it to his right arm.
