Description
Done for ArtSlam 2010 (and probably the last finished piece for it since it's about over.) Painter 11 and Photoshop CS3... switched between them regularly for this piece.Malia's returning to her gypsy roots, using her gifts of prophecy to present the card I feel defines her. Though The Lovers would have been entirely appropriate, this is the card that represents the turning point in her life... the moment everything came crashing down and all was taken from her.
She was faced with the choice to let it consume her completely, ruin her and pretty much end her life... or take the harder road to put the pieces back together, take back what was hers and hold on to her innocence. And, well, Malia never is one to take the easy way out.
Inspired by a stock photo from: *Tasastock [link]
**edit: Her face looked a little off to me, so I tried to fix it so she looked more feminine.

I have been looking at artslam I swear AND THIS WAS SO NICE TO WATCH DEVELOPING. Those hands, god. They look like they really take up space.
Can't get over how much your paintings improved from the beginning. The texture-reliant sketches were cool to look at, but now you're just being IMPRESSIVE.

Total belated thanks! Yeah wow... hands, what?! I'm trying to not be terrified of them any longer, and am pleased with the progress so far. I am glad you approve! Now kick my ass so I keep drawing, please.

Late thank you! Yay! Glad you like her hands! They took me forever and you should have seen the undersketch layer... it was a MESS. A horrible, horrible mess. Very happy the background adds! It was who kicked me into adding a background at all, and she gave me the drapes idea. I had the image flattened so it was a pain, but worth it. Heehee.
