Fun Fact: The Over the Hedge comics have this thing called the Tree That Knows Stuff. It's a talking tree.

Again, Norbert was a character scrapped from Over the Hedge who only ever appeared in 1 piece of concept art, and I've completely recreated him from scratch.

Rant of the Day:

You're getting a discount rant today because this didn't take that long and I don't have a lot to say about it. My college semester ended and I'm worn out.

So yeah, Norbert lives in the "Tree That Knows Stuff" and that's a haha funny comic reference. Basically the story behind this tree in my Over the Hedge canon is that I retconned my 1st OTH fanart to take place here in Norbert's home, hence the fireflies. It'll all make sense (eventually).

I didn't want to make anything complicated so even though this piece isn't particularly grandiose, it came together quite quickly (which I appreciate), it's relaxing to look at, and it was a great tool for seeing how well Norbert fits into the aesthetic. The fact that he seems to blend in with the scenery must prove that it works. That's the whole reason I thought making him a rich shade of orange-brown would be the best design choice. Norbert in the OTH concept art was a bland shade of brown and gray.
