Description
A living plant race birthed from the Bloomfonts, the afflorum are bipedal humanoids that can change their bodies to take on the elemental type of any Bloomfont they touch. They are magically infused by the Bloomfonts when they come into contact with them, which changes an afflorum’s physical characteristics and minor abilities. The afflorum have twisting tendril vine bodies, leaf-like faces, and a distinct elementally-infused core. An afflorum’s physical, plant-like characteristics change depending on the element they are infused with. A fire-infused afflorum might have flames bursting around their face and slightly charred, hardened plant fibers, while a water-infused afflorum might have water swirling around their face, with some traces of damp moss and darker plant fibers throughout their body.
Being plants, the afflorum are all clones, each one being modeled after the original afflorum first created by the Bloomfonts. They have no distinctly individualized features from birth, and they develop into exact copies of each other. Their only difference is the elemental-infusion they begin their life with, which is determined by their closest proximity to a Bloomfont. Born without uniqueness, each afflorum must decide for themselves their place in the world. afflorum often change their elements, as well as other things such as their names, mannerisms, clothes, and other characteristics in order to establish their own identity. Over time, an afflorum’s life and experiences help shape them into someone distinctive, and that journey is different for every individual.
Afflorum live among nearly all people and all societies. An afflorum has little difficulty fitting in with other races, as their appearance is relatively humanoid, and they are equally as intelligent as most other humanoid races. However, they do have a natural propensity to travel, and are often nomadic. Some afflorum settle into communities with other afflorum of the same element, while others are inspired by living amongst those different from themselves to avoid isolation. Occasionally, an afflorum will feel a profound attachment to the Bloomfonts, and might make a pilgrimage to as many Bloomfonts as they can.
