James is 12, the same age as Liam. On the 17th of July, 2016, while walking home from school, a few miles walking, then he fell to the ground, unconscious, because of one thing: a brain tumor. His friends called the ambulance and James' parents, telling them that he laid unconscious while walking home from school.

While unconscious, he... woke up in... the middle of a forest. He was woken up by Ember, a Snivy, in which James had never known her before. When he woke up, he had a major panic attack on who he was and who was he with. Ember calms him down and takes notice on him recalling his memories.

A while later, they started dating, and turned into a duo team, even though they just met. Y'know, love at first sight, love at first fight. Their team name is "Team Cherkessk". And everything else follows the events of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity.
