Description
The well loved "Silverton Train" has been running for many years. In August 1978 I hiked down into the Animas River Canyon, meeting the tracks just north of Midway Depot about 10 miles from Durango where the Denver & Rio Grande narrow gauge rails hop from the west side of the river to the east side. Number 473 came rolling down the hot canyon a little later and then I hiked on up to Needles for the night.Related content

It's great to see you posting again! I haven't ridden the D&S, but I rode the Cumbres & Toltec when I was a tot. I remember being bored by the slow speed of the train, but that was made up for by the excitement of the engine suffering wheel slip. I suspect the other passengers were a bit annoyed by my presence.
