Updated and better version of a previous work. This coat of arms is for a Post-Apocalyptic setting in which "Native" Michiganders intermingled with Quebcois migrants (more like conquerors) fleeing something, forming a Kingdom/Thalassocracy based near the ruins Detroit.

Far from being a true absolute monarchy, the Kingdom of Michigan is an elective thalassocracy. Upon the death of the former king, the Council of Trade..the captains, guild leaders, and all those who either have a single ship or could afford one will either approve or reject the heir as dedicated int he former king's will. Even though almost all the kings have all thus far been from single dynasty, they are not as secure in the position as it would seem. Twice has the throne passed to another house when the living child of the former king deemed to young...or too incompetent. While the King is the high general of the armed forces and Grand Admiral of the Lake's Navy, all legislation must be reviewed by the Council as it pertains, and may be rejected by a majority vote of the Council. Merchantile adventuring is the great ambition of this kingdom, not so much conquest nor power. Wealth is that power, to them. Instead of pushing inland, save for the Lower Peninsula, the Kingdom has been comfortable taking in and colonizing the coastal areas of the Great Lakes and building great fortresses and enclaves in specific trade locales, so that they may control the flow of goods from one petty kingdom to another. The area from Chicago to the Ontario peninsula, a major thoroughfare of trade between Canada and The West, is known as "The Golden Toll", as it is utterly controlled by the Kingdom and has been a massive financial boon for decades.
