Pale light seeped through the boarded windows, slightly lighting up the dark room. Dust and cobwebs filled corners; occasional scurries in the ceiling were the only indication of life in the building other than the two young women standing at the entrance. The taller of the two wore a black pencil skirt and high heels to go along with a milky white shirt. Stubby fingers carried a clipboard and a blue pen as feet tapped the floor impatiently. The other wore a light grey jacket and dark blue jeans with turquoise sneakers. Hands stuffed in her pockets, she stared into the woman’s eyes and thought hard.
“Did you decide yet?” the woman asked with a fake smile, but she seemed irritated with the long wait.
“I’ll do it,” the girl blurted out.
With a sigh of relief, the older lady walked to the center of the room, heals clicking against the floor. She motioned the younger one to follow her. Hesitantly, she followed and stood next to the lady, awestruck by the sight before her.
A machine that looked like a coffin stood in the center of the room, paler than the woman’s crisp shirt, and glowed as soon as the girl stood in front of it. Blue veins coated the machine and lighted up the dark room even more. She couldn’t believe that she didn’t notice it until now.
“Put your hand on top of the sensor,” the woman told her. Sure enough, there was a sensor on top of the machine that popped out of nowhere. She reached over and put a hand over it. It scanned her sleek hand and flashed green. Withdrawing her hand, her eyes widened as the machine covered the sensor and opened on its own.
Inside, there was a frame that looked like the exoskeleton for the human body. Instead of blue and white, like on the outside, there was a glowing hue of green that filled the insides. It seemed like the coffin-like machine was a perfect fit for her body.
“Well?” Irritation filled the woman’s voice again, “Aren’t you going in?”
The girl gulped and slowly sat down in the machine, as if she was in a death trance. She laid down on top of the metal exoskeleton. It seemed to fit her perfectly. She looked up to see the woman smiling smugly.
“Good bye~” she sang and closed the machine. A click was heard, which meant that she locked it. After the girl realized what she got herself into, she tried to break herself out, only to figure out that there was another metal exoskeleton on top of her, locking itself with the frame below her and trapping her so she couldn’t move.
“Sleeping gas released,” a feminine robot voice announced, and suddenly the girl heard small vents opening up beside her.
“No! NO!” she screamed and struggled against the metals to no avail. She heard the gas being released and she coughed violently.
“Open! Open it up!” The gas started to make her eyes droop as she tried to fight back.
“Sorry, sweetie! This is what you wanted, right?” the sickly sweet voice leaked through the coffin. The girl could hear her laugh evilly.
“Not like…this…no…”
The poor young girl regretted coming here; she wished she could be in her warm bed and listen to her mom’s lovely voice, singing a lullaby as she drifted to sleep. A tear escaped as she closed her eyes for the final time.
