Welding shut her wounds in the midst of fight coupled with high stamina had let her last till her opponent would collapse from the loss of energon. This skill made her famous in the Pits.
When the revolution came down, she chose the Decepticon side, but realized her mistake, when Cybertron was completely scorched. Nevertheless, she decided to stay by cons, because it didn't really matter anymore at that point...

Shockstream, on the other hand, didn't really make any choice. He was Meltsling's creation, a minicon made from parts taken from deceased or dying, who couldn't be saved. At first he was nothing more than a lifesupport equipment and defibrillator on legs, but when medic started her hobby of arena fights, it's been modified to transform into a big shield. This little fella can deliver an electrical zap, powerful enough to melt spark's casing.
