Initially I felt nothing at this piece. Maybe because my focus was hurled back into the mundane by a phone call but then I got lost in the shadows here. Something about the way this creature feels lost in his own ecstasy is inverted by that shadow. Reflected, of course. But there is also the inversion. Maybe you could call it a simplification of what's going on within him! Also the way his tattoos speak an extreme darkness into his profile leaves a mark as well. The light and the texture of the gray walls also define a very crisp border to the world within this piece. It feels like a living thing against inorganic, constant things. The shadow feels like his only link to that inorganic, lasting reality. He'll die but that cage will still be there.

The shadow behind him is great - The image itself leads into a narrative of its own, just because of the questions my mind creates by looking at it - what kind of dancing does he do? Why is he in a Cell? - I imagine some sort of beautiful thrashing trance-dance-motion that goes on for hours.
