I see an impressionist scene of cadavers with infernal undertones. The two central decapitated bodies with gaping orifices, dessicated color, racked limbs, and skin pulled taut over ribs stand out powerfully.

The title is fitting for these flayed and stretched bodies with their surrounding dead onlookers. I think the title and images reflect the general fears associated with the human body and its aging, decay, and metamorphosis (both physically and spiritually).

However, I think there is beauty here if these superficial feelings are set aside. These are bodies rending to extremes. True potential is only seen when structures are pushed to their limits of stress. In other words, the extremes of mutilation can be seen as a pinnacle state of capacity.

Most importantly, I like this piece simply because it is an interesting perspective on human anatomy. To someone who has a love of anatomy and has had the pleasure of dissecting a cadaver for PT school, I'm always interested by the distorted portrayals of flesh from the minds of artists.
