Description
I watched you, endlessly, in hope that just one,"I love you" may fall from your lips,
That did not drip with an acidic tone that was oh-so you.
Falling with a lethargic drip...drop that scorched,
The worn, bare floorboards onto which they fell,
Those marks remained even when you did not.
Instead all you uttered were lies like my drugs,
Which knotted round my wrists, and writhed against my skin,
Until they slid into my veins, blackening my blood.
They coiled around my heart like the poison they were,
Until my skin resembled an ancient map,
Navigated by endless, tangled, inky lines.
But I only saw your sweet smiles, romantic gestures,
No amount of adoring stares let me really see,
My eyes were clouded, just like their colour,
As I hunched over notebooks, scribbling in spidery script,
I should have noticed the way the words lay on the paper,
Like blue and black corpses, lying lifeless where they fell.
But I hid among my pretty words and metaphors,
Thinking that our love was the epic poems, printed onto dusty pages,
When really, we were the paper cut, a scarlet smear on yellowed Memories.
