Description
auyaugh I don't like showing WIPs but I'm trying to stop with this fearAlso it's good for me to take a break from digital drawings and work on more complex illustrations, since they are my favorite to do ;v;
I've been working on this between commissions (there's more to the drawing than his face), this is Apolo Poe, he is a very unfortunate boy. British as hell too hahaaa He's got red hair and freckles all over
Apolo is a frustrated artist, basically a loser (like me *shot*) ughgh I'll update this file whenever I'm able to color a bit more

I always think about it *u*
But that requires constant upkeep and I am lazy when it comes to coloring my hair...
I had a bad run in with a cheap hair color kit last year. Was supposed to be a darker brown but I had to do it twice because I missed a good chunk of hair and it died my hair black :/
Had to go to a hair stylist to get it taken out XD

I agree with everyone else that I really like this b/w! Very mysterious and gothic.

Even your WIPs look beautiful I should really start with B&W more often in my drawings to get the values more correct. I'm sure the final version of this will be amazing as always!

Thanks!! It's a bit tricky in the beginning but once you get the hang of it it's like shading with a pencil

Oh I've done B&W shading before. It's actually way easier than with color! The only problem is actually ADDING the color once it's been shaded! The layers tend to do stupid things with the blending...

yeah D: I usually just use a layer set to "color", add the basic tones then add another layer and paint on top of everything again haha

I think the wip looks fantastic! It's a great way to look inside how you work behind it all and the process.

for simpler drawings like the ones you see me posting all the time I work directly with colors, for more detailed stuff I usually work on gray-scale to check my light and shadow values first ;v;

Oh, I see that's really interesting! Is it hard working with colors right away? I've started using the grayscale method for painting a little while back to finally start really learning how to draw correctly and soon I guess I'll have to involve starting painting right away with colors, which is something I'm a bit afraid of because I still have a long way to go. ;u;

It's not hard, but it's really easy to get values wrong if you don't constantly check the black and white version of what you're doing, for instance, it's easier to mistake saturated colors for bright colors, sometimes a drawing that looks really really bright can be just overly saturated, the only way to check it is with a good eye or switching to black and white ;v; I personally prefer going with color straight away, but since I'm trying to improve my painting I now start with gray-scale! ;v;

Ah, this is really helpful and I think I learnt a thing or two by reading this but yes I agree! It's good to start off with grayscale if you're not that good with colors just yet and that's definetly me. ;u;
